The national championship game participants have already lost Eric Reibe to the portal, and now they are losing a guard.

Recently, the University of Connecticut men's basketball team lost two players to the transfer portal in centers Eric Reibe and Rrezon Elezaj.

While both of them are interior options, the Huskies can now add a guard to the list of departing players.

According to Sam Kayser, Huskies guard Uros Paunovic is also entering the portal and will have a new home next season.

The 6-3 guard from Serbia just completed his first season with the Huskies. He played sparingly, seeing action in 14 games. He played only 14 minutes, scoring just two points.

It's unclear where he'll go, but Connecticut will presumably look to fill his spot with another perimeter player.

The lay of the land currently

The Huskies advanced to the national championship game for the third time in four years in 2025-26, but they are going to experience roster attrition after the loss to Michigan.

Senior Alex Karaban, one of the most beloved players in the last quarter century of Huskies hoops, is graduating and heading to the NBA. Senior Tarris Reed Jr. is also out of eligibility, as is reserve guard Malachi Smith. Dwayne Koroma and Alec Millender are also done, in addition to these three transfers.

UConn did get some good news on Tuesday as rising senior Silas Demary Jr. announced that he was coming back to Storrs. He figures to pair with Solo Ball in the backcourt, and the hope is that Braylon Mullins returns to school as well.

Both Ball and Mullins could declare for the NBA Draft, but have not made announcements yet.

Congratulations are in order for former Huskies hockey player Viking Gustafsson Nyberg, who made his NHL debut on April 13 for the Minnesota Wild.

As noted by the Wild's PR team, he was the 319th skater (341st player overall) to play in a regular season game for the franchise. He was the 111th player to make his NHL debut with the Wild.

Gustafsson Nyberg spent two years in Storrs after previously playing at Northern Michigan. He played 77 games for the Huskies, scoring one goal and dishing out 21 assists.

It's unclear if he'll be on the Wild's playoff roster, but Minnesota has clinched a spot in the quest for the Stanley Cup. It appears as if they'll play the Dallas Stars in the first round, and a schedule is not set.

The Buffalo Sabres have also clinched a playoff spot, and they are led by former Huskies player Tage Thompson, who helped Team USA hockey to an Olympic gold medal this winter in Italy.
