The ceremony honoring the addition of former UConn star Aaliyah Edwards to the Huskies of Honor wall at Gampel Pavilion has been rescheduled.
The event initially was set for Monday when the Huskies host Notre Dame, but it now will be held Jan. 28 before UConn meets Big East foe Xavier on its home court in Storrs. The reason for the shift is a conflict with Edwards’ game schedule in the Unrivaled league.
Edwards appeared in 132 games (99 starts) from 2020-24 and played in three Final Four rounds of the NCAA Tournament. She ended her Huskies career with 1,861 points and 1,020 rebounds.
The 6-foot-3 forward was selected No. 6 overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2024 NBA Draft and traded to the Connecticut Sun the following season. The 23-year-old has career averages of 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 70 games.
Just a reminder that UConn will celebrate the 10th anniversaries of the Huskies’ 2015 and 2016 national championship teams. The ceremony is scheduled to begin about a half-hour before the Huskies’ 7 p.m. tipoff against Villanova.
The teams will be inducted into the Huskies of Honor. Fans not in attendance can watch the festivities on UConn women's basketball X and Facebook pages and the UConn Huskies YouTube page.
Players on those teams include All-Americans Moriah Jefferson, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart. Jefferson and Stewart are expected to attend as are former Huskies Napheesa Collier, Tierney Lawlor, Kia Nurse, Briana Pulido, Katie Lou Samuelson, Kiah Stokes and Morgan Tuck.
The depth of the current No. 1 UConn women (17-0, 8-0) is so great that the team has withstood the lengthy injury losses of Ice Brady and Morgan Cheli.
Head coach Geno Auriemma said Wednesday that both might be out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Brady, a redshirt junior, has played just 23 minutes and scored five points over two games this season, plagued by inflammation in her right knee since early November.
Brady took her redshirt season as a freshman, when she dislocated the patella in her right knee. If she, indeed, misses the rest of the season, she likely would be eligible for a medical redshirt.
Cheli, a sophomore, underwent ankle surgery in February 2025, ending her first college season after 24 games. The 2024 McDonald’s and Naismith First Team All-American has not played this season.
Auriemma said Wednesday the he would be “pleasantly surprised” if either woman returned to action this season.
He had better news about redshirt sophomore Jana El Alfy, who has been out since sustaining a concussion on Jan. 6 during practice. The center is practicing again and nearing a return, he said.
