The Sun played their final WNBA game in Connecticut on Thursday night.
On Thursday, the Connecticut Sun played their final WNBA game in Connecticut, beating the Toronto Tempo 95-81.
The Sun, who have played in Connecticut since 2003, will be moving to Houston for the 2027 campaign.
The Sun started out as the Orlando Miracle, playing four seasons in Orlando before moving north. The WNBA began in 1997 with only eight teams, but had expanded to 12 by 1999. The Miracle/Sun are not one of the original teams, but have been around for nearly the entire duration of the league's existence.
While in Connecticut, the group got to the WNBA playoffs 16 times. They never won the championship, but they did get to the Finals in 2004, 2005 and 2019.
Once the final whistle had sounded, the UConn Huskies women's basketball program delivered a quick but heartfelt message on social media, saying "It was a privilege to share the state with the Connecticut Sun. Thanks for the memories."
The Sun played at the Mohegan Sun Arena, which is a place where the Huskies have played. UConn will take on Syracuse there on Oct. 12 for the first exhibition contest of the 2026-27 campaign. The men's programs will play the following day.
Earlier this season, former Huskies stars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd played against the Sun, giving them their final games in Connecticut. The duo plays for the Dallas Wings, who clinched a spot in the WNBA Playoffs earlier this week.
Aaliyah Edwards, another former Huskies standout, has spent parts of the last two years with the Sun. She averaged 10.9 this season before Thursday's game.

--Geno Auriemma's team held a practice last weekend in Fairfield, Conn., and there were multiple injury updates to come out of that practice session, including on Blanca Quinonez and Allie Ziebell.
--UConn will open the season on Nov. 3. The Huskies are coming off a campaign in which they went 38-1, with the only loss coming in the national semifinal against South Carolina, who went onto loss to UCLA in the national title game.

The UConn football team is 2-1 on the season after beating Souther Mississippi on Saturday night. They'll be back in action this upcoming Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET against Miami of Ohio. The Redhawks are 1-2 on the season after losing to Cincinnati last week.
