The Huskies closed out the regular season in style, beating the Black Knights by 36 points.
The UConn Huskies women's basketball program defeated Army 86-50 on Sunday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion, moving to 3-0 in the exhibition season.
That's it for the exhibition season, as the Huskies will now wait for the regular season opener, which is Nov. 2 against Cornell.
Here's what you need to know from this one. The takeaways are not in any particular order.
Huskies turn it on in second quarter
In our preview of this game, we said we wanted to see the Huskies play to their potential, and not down to the level of the competition. Well, at the end of the first quarter, UConn only led 21-18. But a 32-7 outburst in the second gave the Huskies a 28-point halftime lead.
UConn only won the other three quarters by 11 combined points, so they could stand to be more consistent, but the second quarter was all this team needed.
Freshman play well again
We wanted to see how Jovana Popovic and Olivia Vukosa did in their final tune-ups before the regular season. Well, Popovic scored 10 points in 26 minutes. She didn't shoot as well as she has previously, going just 4-of-9, but she had four assists and no turnovers.
Vukosa, after going scoreless against Texas, had nine points in 21 minutes. She also had seven rebounds and three steals.
Three-point shooting scuffles
The Huskies were awful in the first exhibition game against Syracuse, and then much better against Texas in game two. In this one, they were 9-of-25, which is less than 33 percent. While the number of 3's made is good, the efficiency level is not. They'll continue working on that. Sarah Strong, Popovic and Ashlynn Shade each had two 3's. Allie Ziebell was 3-of-7.
Still no Quinonez
Blanca Quinonez, who is still recovering from multiple offseason surgeries, didn't play. She registered no minutes in the preseason, so it will be interesting if she's available on Opening Night, and how much she'll play if she is ready.
Rebounding edge isn't really there
Yes, different rotations are playing in these exhibition games and the starters aren't seeing the regular minutes they will in the regular season, but you'd expect UConn to out-rebounded Army by more than two (37-35).
Turnover situation
The Huskies had 21 assists to just six turnovers, which is an excellent 3:1 ratio. They also forced 22 turnovers, which is indicative of an excellent defensive effort.
