On Sunday night, Diana Taurasi is having her iconic No. 3 retired by the Phoenix Mercury.

It's a fitting end to an incredible career for the 44-year-old Taurasi, who spent 20 years in the WNBA - all with Phoenix.

One of the greatest women's basketball players to ever play the game, Taurasi has a laundry list of accomplishments. She was a 14-time All-WNBA selection, an 11-time All-Star, a five-time scoring champion, a three-time WNBA Finals champion and a two-time WNBA Finals MVP. She also was the MVP of the entire league in 2009.

While not directly related to the WNBA, she was also a six-time Olympic champion, winning gold medals for Team USA in 2024, 2020, 2016, 2012, 2008 and 2004.

Before all that? She was a star at the University of Connecticut. A foundational figure in program history, Taurasi won three NCAA titles with the Huskies while also earning three All-America selections.

She was the AP Player of the Year in 2003, won two Naismith Awards, two Big East Player of the Year Awards and was a Wade Award Winner. She averaged 15.0 ppg in her career while shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range.

As her big night approaches, the Mercury are sharing video messages from other WNBA players, including UConn alums Paige Bueckers, Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart.

Bird called Taurasi an inspiration, while Stewart called her a role model and joked that is trying to break all her records. Bueckers called her one of the GOATS of the game. All three spoke about her impact on the WNBA and the game of basketball as a whole in some form or fashion.

It's unclear what exactly the plans are for the night ahead, but there's a good chance that some former UConn connections will be present in the building. Perhaps Bird, perhaps head coach Geno Auriemma? We'll have to wait and see.

The Mercury are playing the fire at 7 p.m. ET.

Speaking of UConn women's basketball, the Huskies are in the mix for Washington state recruit (2027) Finley Parcher. A four-star recruit from Washington, Parcher has put UConn in her final seven.

UConn is the only East Coast school on the list, which means Auriemma could have a tougher time selling her on the program. You can check out the full list here.
