University of Connecticut alum and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky shared a disappointing sentiment on Thursday's edition of 'Get Up' on ESPN, saying that he doesn't want to see Group of Five teams in the College Football Playoff.
James Madison and Tulane are both in the College Football Playoff this year.
Okay, no, they should not be in. I don't need 'Any Given Sunday' in the playoff as well. I could do 'Any Given Sunday' in a regular season game. Great. The G5 teams nowadays are different than the G5 teams of 10 years ago. The top two or three players, four players at G5 are on G5 programs 10 years ago? They were there more often than not and then they took the leap to the NFL. The best four or five kids at the G5 schools now? They're gone and they're all playing in the power four conferences, into the Big Ten and into the SEC, because they're getting paid to go up because they've proven that they are a quality player at that level, and so those G5 teams that maybe had those three or four that can make them a Cinderella and hang? Those kids don't play for those programs anymore.

There's a lot wrong with college sports right now, and there's a lot that makes college sports difficult: The transfer portal and NIL have completely changed the game, and not necessarily for the better.
But one of the things that still makes college sports great? The idea of upsets, or at least the idea of the little university getting a chance to hang with the big one.
We celebrate it every year in 'March Madness' and we should celebrate it here too. It doesn't matter if James Madison gets beat 50-0 or not, they've earned the right (12-1) to represent their university at the highest level. The same is true of Tulane, who just won a league title.
Notre Dame has a chance to join a conference and make their inclusion easier. They've chosen not to. They had a chance to win the games on their schedule they needed to win. They didn't. I don't feel bad for them.
And by the way? SMU, of the ACC, was beaten 38-10 in the first round of the playoff a season ago. No. 10 Indiana was down 20-3 after three quarters. Blowouts happen to average power four teams as well.
A four-year standout for the Huskies, Orlovsky threw for 10,706 yards in Storrs - and 84 touchdowns. He led the Big East in passing yards (3,354) during his senior year. He was a seven-year NFL veteran of the Detroit Lions, Houston Texas, Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He threw 15 career touchdowns. He's now one of the more prominent NFL insiders.
