Junior County, one of the nation’s top shooting guards, committed to UConn on Thursday.

He shared the announcement on his Instagram account.

The 247Sports composite lists County, who plays at Wasatch Academy in Utah, as a four-star prospect and ranks him No. 3 at the position, No. 40 overall in the Class of 2026 and No. 1 in Utah.

He is the Huskies’ first commit in that class.

County has been a hot prospect, with offers from almost 20 Power 4 schools. He chose the Huskies over his other four finalists: Arizona, Indiana, Maryland and Purdue.

He told ESPN that on his recent official visit, he knew the Huskies were right for him.

"It was the feeling I got while watching practice, talking to [coach Dan] Hurley and going around campus," the 6-foot-4, 180-pound County told the network. "I believe I'll be able to develop and grow into the best version of myself while I'm there."

He jelled with Hurley, too.

"We have a great relationship and I love the intensity," County said. "I think that's why he's able to get the best out of his players every day."

The Junior County File

Playing for the Utah Prospects of the Nike EYBL circuit earlier this year, County averaged 13.6 points, 3.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds over a team-leading 27:29 minutes per game.

Here’s what Adam Finkelstein, the 247Sports director of scouting, wrote about County:

“County is strong and physical with long arms and loads of winning intangibles. While he’s a versatile scoring threat and capable of creating his own shot from all three levels, he understands how to play within the flow, move the ball, and keep the dominos falling when the opposing defense is scrambling (3.4 assists with 2.1 turnovers).

“That requires both unselfishness and a high basketball IQ. Similarly, he throws ahead in transition, makes quick/simple reads with the ball, cuts well, and just knows how to play in offensive structure.”

Finkelstein continued: “The bottom line is that his size, length, strength, two-way versatility, high basketball IQ, and competitive intangibles all [lead] him to impact winning in a wide variety of ways.”

247Sports ranked UConn’s 2025 class as No. 9 in the nation.

Hurley brought in two transfer guards – Malachi Smith (Dayton) and Silas Demery Jr. (Georgia) – and four freshmen to add to a roster anchored by 6-8 senior forward Alex Karaban.

The freshmen are 5-star guard Braylon Mullins (Greenfield, Ind.), ranked as the No. 12 player in the class; 7-1 center Eric Reibe, who is from Germany but plays at The Bullis School in Potomac, Md.; guard Jacob Ross (Bristow, Va.), younger brother of returning forward Jayden Ross; and Australian small forward Jacob Furphy out of the NBA Global Academy.

The Huskies are scheduled to open their 2025-26 season against New Haven on Nov. 3 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn.
