Trent Mosley had a career day against the Penn State Nittany Lions with nine receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. Mosley had missed the prior two games with an injury before giving USC a much needed lift in Penn State annual "White Out" game.
USC Trojan wide receiver Trent Mosley has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his week six performance against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The freshman receiver finished the game with nine receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown. What is most impressive about this feat is that it came in front of 114,000 fans in Penn State's annual “White Out” game.
It was also Mosley's first game back from a week three knee injury.
On the season Mosley has 22 receptions for 366 yards and five touchdowns. He is averaging 16.6 yards per reception and averaging 91.5 yards per game. He also has a punt return for a touchdown giving him six touchdowns on the season.
The freshman injured his knee in the Louisiana game causing him to miss games against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Oregon Ducks, and Washington Huskies. He was injured on a play that he scored a touchdown.
Mosley was part of Lincoln Riley's star studded No. 1 recruiting class of 2026. So far this season two other players from that class have already been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Defensive end Luke Wafle and tight end Mark Bowman have also received the award this year.
Mosley was the Cal Hi 2025 State Player of the year in California while leading Santa Margarita to the state championship. He was also named to numerous All American teams and was rated the No. 201 player in the country, which seems a bit low considering his impact as a freshman.
He was coached by former USC great Carson Palmer. Palmer won the Heisman at USC before going on to have an outstanding NFL career with the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders, and the Phoenix Cardinals.
Even with Palmer as his high school coach USC had to be elated when Mosley chose USC considering his older brother plays wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns. What is even more interesting is that both of his parents are former student athletes of Notre Dame University.
Mosley is already drawing comparisons to former USC Bieletinoff winner and current Philadelphia Eagle Makai Lemon. The two players are similar in size at 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Both players also look similar the way they attack the ball when it’s in the air.
The bye week came right in time for USC and Mosley. Though he is back from injury, an extra week of rest will benefit him and the other players dealing with injuries.
USC will need to be at full strength as it has games against heavyweights the Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers remaining, not including a showdown with the 5-0 UCLA Bruins at the end of the year.
