The American Fork standout witnessed the Utes' creative two-quarterback system firsthand, praising the electric Rice-Eccles atmosphere and coaching staff as Utah solidifies its status for local recruits.
American Fork wide receiver Cash Taiese was among the recruits in attendance for Utah’s matchup against Kansas on Saturday. The visit gave Taiese another opportunity to see the program up close, and he came away impressed with what he saw.
“What stood out was how much the coaches talked to me and how crazy the crowd was,” Taiese told me.
One of the biggest takeaways from his visit was Utah’s offense and the success the Utes had utilizing both Devon Dampier and Byrd Ficklin at quarterback.
“They had a great performance, and what caught my attention is how successful they are with two quarterbacks,” Taiese said.
Taiese also had the opportunity to speak with both quarterbacks during his visit. The conversations included Utah’s offense and how the season has been going for both sides.
With Kevin McGiven running the offense, Utah has continued to find creative ways to utilize its weapons, something that has caught the attention of recruits like Taiese.
“Utah’s heading in a really good direction and being really creative with their offense,” Taiese said.
Between the atmosphere at Rice-Eccles Stadium, his conversations with the coaching staff, and what he saw offensively, Taiese left Salt Lake City with a positive impression of the Utes.
Utah hosted numerous visitors, including Taiese on Saturday night. This was a decent weekend to have recruits on campus. The game had to be moved up due to weather. But that was the only downer for the Utes.
As for the game itself, Utah took care of business to stay perfect on the season with a 41-24 win over Kansas. This was the first time in 30 years the Jayhawks made a trip to Salt Lake City. The Utes had a balanced approach, finishing with 287 rushing yards, 258 passing yards, and went a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone.
Wayshawn Parker finished with 171 rushing yards and two touchdowns, but it was his impact late in the game that really stood out. He was breaking tackles, picking up critical first downs, and putting the offense on his back when Utah needed it most.
Parker's 90-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the dagger.
Kansas' defense had no answer for Utah all night long. The Utes' offense has another favorable matchup at Colorado on Saturday. The Buffaloes have one of the worst defenses in the country.
Taiese could be the next big receiving threat for McGiven and the Utes offense. Time will tell if staying home will be part of his football future.
