Deion Sanders’ struggling defense faces a brutal reality check against Utah's potent attack as dismal win percentages and roster turnover overshadow the Buffaloes' rebuilding efforts in Boulder.

Editor's note: This is part two of a two-part series entitled, "Colorado football has a bigger problem than the Go-Go offense before facing No. 11 Utah (Part 2)." Check out the preceding part one.

With the Colorado Buffaloes at 2-3 on the season, why would Sanders' staff be loud about the past? To distract from the present. Coach Prime is 5-12 without Hunter and his sons on the roster. It's the worst 17-game stretch for any CU coach over the past 14 years.

Uncle Neely stated in a viral video, “Listening to some people talk today, you’d think that Coach Prime inherited Alabama from Nick Saban when he didn’t, from 2006 through 2022. Colorado football went approximately 69-134, 69 wins and 134 losses. That’s about a 34% winning percentage."

There is something to say about that statement, especially when you have a coach who is ranked 14th overall among the highest-paid in college football. Not to mention, he completely turns over his roster each year and has a current record of 18-24 with a win percentage of 42% heading into a meeting with No. 11 Utah. The Buffs would need to win out for Coach Prime to be .500 during his time in Boulder.

If Colorado wins one more game this season and loses six, Sanders' winning percentage would be a 19-30 record, which is 38.8 percent. Neely didn’t realize that would be two percent less than all the CU coaches combined in 20 years. Sanders has been there a fourth of the time. Needless to say, the Buffs need something positive. Don't count on this weekend being one for Utah to be on upset watch.

Sanders and the Buffs will have to account for Kevin McGiven's high-flying offense that features two QBs on the field. The Colorado defense, who has struggled to maintain consistency this season, will now have to find a way to shut down the Utes. This isn't likely to happen.

CU's first-year defensive coordinator Chris Marve will have to somehow dial up the right coverage. But there are too many playmakers for McGiven in this game of chess vs. checkers. Utah should have no troubles with Colorado this week, and this might be an embarrassing loss for Sanders and his crew. Similar to last year in Salt Lake City when the Utes hung half-a-hundred on the Buffs, the matchup on Saturday will feel the same.

The biggest road win by margin of victory for Utah football in modern history is a 42-point margin, achieved in their 62-20 blowout victory against the No. 13 Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium in 2015. If Utah could out firing on cylinders, this week could rival the one from 11 years ago.

No. 11 Utah heads to Boulder for the latest edition of the Rumble in the Rockies with Colorado on Saturday. Kickoff from Folsom Field will be at 10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
