ESPN College GameDay Makes Major Graphic Error Ahead of Utah-Houston Showdown

The network aired a botched graphic that swapped team rankings and ignored recent losses ahead of the Utes’ high-stakes Big 12 showdown.

ESPN's College GameDay brought its popular traveling show to Salt Lake City on Saturday ahead of the highly anticipated contest between No. 10 Utah and No. 14 Houston. This was one of two Top 25 matchups in Week 8 of the College Football season.

However, Utah fans might be upset with the broadcast crew after making a bad mistake by displaying a graphic that incorrectly listed Houston at No. 10 instead of the Utes. This was a significant error considering the show was broadcasting from Utah's campus. Beyond the rankings, the graphic also showed No. 2 BYU, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 10 Houston as undefeated teams, despite the Cougars already suffering a loss to the Red Raiders earlier this season.

Houston enters Saturday's showdown at 6-1 overall (3-1 Big 12), looking to hand Utah its first loss of the season. The Utes are 6-0 (3-0 Big 12) and are riding a 12-game winning streak dating back to last season, which is the longest active streak in the FBS.

Make no mistake about it, Houston presents a challenge in a late-night contest. The Cougars have been dominant on the ground, averaging 220 rushing yards per game while allowing just 82.6 yards per game defensively. Their secondary has also been outstanding, with Jordan Allen, Will James and Jalen Mayo all ranking among the nation's top 30 in passes defended.

On the other hand, Houston's passing attack has been equally productive, becoming the only school in the country with three receivers recording at least five receiving touchdowns through Week 7. Tight end Patrick Overmyer leads all FBS tight ends with seven touchdown receptions.

The Utes are also seeking their seventh consecutive victory this season under head coach Morgan Scalley. Quarterback Devon Dampier has helped lead one of the Big 12's most productive offenses.

Saturday's game also marks Utah's 100th consecutive sellout at Rice-Eccles Stadium, adding another milestone to an already significant rivalry matchup. This one comes as Utah athletic director Mark Harlan called for fewer late-night games. This will be the second week in a row for the Utes to be past 10 p.m. ET.

For ESPN, the embarassing flub will go away, but it's still a human side of the show. This one was rare, and the production team didn't catch it before it made air.

No. 10 Utah faces No. 14 Houston in the Big 12 Game of the Week. Kickoff from Salt Lake City is scheduled at 10:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
