The Texas standout will be right at home in Salt Lake City with outstanding coaches.
Utah landed one of its top defensive back targets in the 2027 class when Coppell, Texas, cornerback Jaden Bibbs committed to the Utes back in June.
For Bibbs, Utah separated itself with the people.
“The relationships with the coaches and the way they treated me and my family,” Bibbs told me. “It just felt like the right fit from the beginning.”
Bibbs is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound corner who chose Utah over Baylor and Houston after taking official visits to all three programs. As a junior at Coppell, he finished with 43 tackles, nine pass breakups and two interceptions.
He gives Utah another Texas defensive back with speed, physicality and the confidence to play on an island. A big reason Bibbs believes Utah is the right place to develop that game is Sharrieff Shah.
“Me and Coach Shah have a great relationship,” Bibbs said. “I trust him to push me, develop me, and help me become the best DB I can be.”
That relationship has been important from the beginning. Utah was one of the programs that got involved early with Bibbs, and Shah made an impression by believing in him before his recruitment completely took off. Bibbs previously said that early belief played a big role in his decision.
Utah already has a pretty clear vision of what he can become.
“They see me as someone who can compete right away and bring physicality, confidence and competitiveness to the secondary,” Bibbs said.
He is not coming to Utah talking like someone who wants to sit around and wait to contribute. He knows he can compete early, and the traits he keeps coming back to, physicality, confidence and competitiveness, fit exactly what Utah wants from their corners.
The culture Morgan Scalley is building has also played a major role in keeping Bibbs bought in.
“The toughness and accountability,” Bibbs said. “Everybody holds each other to a high standard, and that really stood out to me.”
Scalley has emphasized bringing in players who fit the identity he wants the program to have, and Bibbs sounds like one of those guys. He wants to compete. He wants to be pushed. And he wants to play physical football.
When I asked him what Utah fans should expect when they eventually see him inside Rice-Eccles Stadium, his answer was simple.
“You’re getting a competitor who’s going to work, play physical, and give everything he has every time he steps on the field.”
The Utes got an elite corner out of Texas, but more importantly, they got someone who already seems bought into exactly what Shah and Scalley want their defense to look like.
