Riding a nation-leading 14-game winning streak, the undefeated Utes soar to No. 3 following Devon Dampier’s record-breaking performance ahead of a high-stakes Holy War showdown against BYU.
Devon Dampier threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns. The outstanding dual-threat quarterback also etched his name in the Utah record books. He finished the game with 45 rushing yards, giving him 1,228 for his career at Utah, which is the most for a quarterback in program history. Travis Wilson had 1,225 rushing yards over a decade ago.
With the Utes now 8-0 on the season, they own the nation’s longest active FBS winning streak is now at 14 games. One of the biggest factors to Utah's success has been Devon Dampier and his athleticism. The hard work is starting to pay off for the Utes. Dampier has 1,876 passing yards and 18 touchdowns this season. Add that to his 393 rushing yards and five scores.
Utah moves inside the top four for the first time this year. No. 2 Ohio State suffered a 30-18 loss to USC, which sent the Buckeyes plummeting down the rankings. The second loss for Ryan Day's team puts them on the outside looking in for a possible College Football Playoff run. There are four games left for OSU to gain some ground, but there are no easy games remaining.
No. 1 Miami remains the nation's top team for another week. But the struggle was real for the Hurricanes against Bill Belichick and the UNC Tar Heels with a 38-35 win on Saturday.
Georgia moved up one spot to No. 2 after a 27-8 victory over No. 17 Florida. The Bulldogs are the highest-ranked one-loss team with both Utah and UCLA unbeaten and behind them. Kirby Smart and his staff are ramping up for a Playoff run, but also have a difficult schedule in the final month.
