Where Utah Football Will be Ranked in Tomorrow's AP Top 25 Poll
Nov 8, 2026 4:15 AM

After a thrilling Holy War victory and a Miami loss, the undefeated Utes eye their first top ranking in program history. Will voters reward perfection over SEC dominance?

The 3rd-ranked Utah Utes took care of business with a 28-20 win over the No. 9 BYU Cougars on Saturday. Morgan Scalley's first Holy War as a head coach in Salt Lake City couldn't have been scripted any better.

Utah snapped a three-game losing streak against BYU in the process. Devon Dampier accounted for four touchdowns, and the Utes' defense intercepted Bear Bachmeier four times to stay undefeated at 9-0 and extend the nation's longest winning streak to 15 games.

With top-ranked Miami losing to No. 11 Notre Dame 31-24, there will be a new team at No. 1 on Sunday. Utah will slide up, but how far will they go up? That's the question every AP Top 25 voter will be asking themselves in the coming hours.

No. 2 Georgia beat No. 10 Ole Miss 42-7 in a wild SEC affair. The loss to Auburn weighs heavily for Kirby Smart's team and should be taken into account. If voters lean into putting a one-loss Georgia team ahead of undefeated Utah, then what can the Utes do to move up to No. 1? Will the Bulldogs need a second loss if that were to happen?

BYU beat Notre Dame, who beat the No. 1 team in the country. That factor alone for the head-to-head competition should matter. Georgia has three quality wins, while Utah has two. Both teams have a common opponent, which is Arkansas. The Utes beat the Hogs by 33 points, and the Bulldogs had a similar result with a 28-point win.

At the end of the day, the AP voters should be rewarding Utah for being undefeated. There's only two teams in the country that are perfect, with UCLA being the other. The former Pac-12 foes have worked their way to the top and should be in the top three.

With Miami falling to Notre Dame, Utah should be the new No. 1 in the nation, followed by No. 2 Georgia. If wins and losses are taken into consideration, that's how the voters should be scoring it. There's a case to be made for UCLA at No. 3 because of only having one quality win. But we'll see how this plays out.

Utah has presented its case as one of the best in the country and didn't disappoint in the slightest. If they are the nation's new No. 1 team, it would be the first time in history. The highest ranking came in the Final AP poll for 2008 at No. 2. The unreal first season for Morgan Scalley continues to be a thriller.

The AP Top 25 College Football Poll for Week 11 will be released at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
