Surviving a scare against Colorado, the undefeated Utes climb into the top ten while securing the nation’s longest winning streak amidst a historic weekend of top-tier upsets.
The Utah Utes are now 6-0 with a 27-24 win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night.
This is the program's best mark since 2015, which brought more notoriety and national attention as one of college football's last unbeaten teams. In fact, half of the nation's top teams are in the Big 12.
After edging out Deion Sanders and the Buffs, Utah heads back to Salt Lake City with some work to do. Morgan Scalley's team narrowly avoided the upset, and it was ugly in the second half. However, what matters is that Utah stays perfect for the season. They move up to No. 10 after the win.
With Notre Dame and Indiana both losing on Saturday, the Utes hold the nation's longest winning streak at 12 games.
Five of the top 8 teams in the AP Top 25 lost on the same regular-season day for the first time since the poll was created in 1936. No. 1 Georgia’s 27-24 loss to Auburn. The top two teams in the country lost on the same day for the first time in the regular season since Nov. 17, 2012.
No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Indiana, No. 6 Alabama and No. 7 Texas all fell in Week 7. This led to a shake-up at the top. Miami is the nation's new No. 1. The runner-up from last year's national championship moves ahead after a 43-35 double overtime win over Florida State. No. 2 Notre Dame tried to stage a last-minute comeback, but failed to get the final score in a 28-24 loss to BYU. Kalani Sitake's team proved they belong in the national championship conversation.
BYU was the Big 12's top-ranked team, ahead of No. 8 Texas Tech and the Utes. All three conference teams are undefeated midway through the regular season. Arizona came in at No. 25, which is up three spots from last week.
