The Huskies began their east coast trip on a strong note against the Scarlet Knights

The No. 25 Washington Huskies women's basketball team headed east for a two-game trip and started it on an emphatic note.

The Huskies dominated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 76-48 at Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.

Washington improved to 16-4 overall this season and 6-3 in Big Ten play. The Dawgs are fifth in the conference after the win.

The Huskies didn't trail once against the Scarlet Knights. UW had four separate runs of 4-0 or better in the first quarter, including a 5-0 run to begin the game, and went into the second frame up 20-12.

Washington began the second quarter the same as the first. The team went on an 8-0 run to bolster its lead to 28-12 and didn't trail by less than 14 points after its opening run.

The Huskies extended their advantage to as much as 23 points going into halftime and led 43-20.

Washington's two leading scorers, sophomore guard Avery Howell and freshman forward Brynn McGaughy accounted for half of their team-leading 16 and 17 points in the first half, respectively. Howell had eight points in the first 20 minutes and McGaughy had nine.

Howell finished the game with 16 points on 6-for-13 shooting (4-for-10 from 3-point range) and pulled in seven rebounds, dished an assist and blocked a shot.

McGaughy had a team-high 17 points on 8-for-9 shooting, had seven rebounds, an assist and blocked a shot.

The Huskies continued their dominance in the second half. From seven minutes, 43 seconds to 4:22 left in the third quarter, UW went on an 11-0 run that extended its lead to 56-27.

Rutgers wasn't able to pull to closer than 21 points the rest of the game.

Junior guard Sayvia Sellers also joined Howell and McGaughy in double-figures.

Sellers scored 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting (3-for-5 from 3-point range), dished six assists and had a block.

Senior center Yulia Grabovskaia also had a dominant showing on the boards.

Grabovskaia scored nine points and brought in 17 rebounds (including 10 offensive rebounds) and had an assist and a block, respectively.

The Huskies out-rebounded the Scarlet Knights 51-30. Washington pulled in 18 offensive boards to Rutgers' 10.

The Huskies scored 20 second chance points to the Scarlet Knights' seven.

Washington will wrap up its east coast trip with a Top 25 matchup against the No. 16 Maryland Terrapins at 4 p.m. PT on Jan. 28 at Xfinity Center College Park in College Park, Md. If the Huskies were to take down the Terrapins, it would be the former's second win against a Top 25 opponent this season.
