Nebraska remained unbeaten, sending the Huskies to a 2-6 league record.

The University of Washington men's basketball team continued its Big Ten struggles on Wednesday night, falling 76-66 against No. 7 Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb.

Washington, who was outscored by 13 points in the first half, fell to 10-9 and just 2-6 inside league play. The Cornhuskers, who are off to the best start in program history, are now 19-0 and a perfect 8-0 inside Big Ten play.

The Huskies continue to be unable to field a full team, which is contributing to these losses. Desmond Claude has stepped away from the group because of an ankle injury, and Wesley Yates, who has missed time, didn't play either.

Here's what you need to know.

Steinbach remains awesome

The Huskies continue to struggle, but the talented freshman from Germany remains one of the best players in the league. He had 21 points and 12 rebounds in just 32 minutes of action. He contributed five offensive rebounds and a block and continues to look like a candidate for the league's best freshman.

Inside the box score

--Joining Steinbach in double-figures was Zoom Diallo, who had 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He was also 2-of-4 from three-point range.

--Washington shot 27-of-61 from the floor (44 percent) and 6-of-21 (29 percent) from three-point range. On top of that, the Huskies only got to the foul line 10 times (6-of-10).

--On the other side, Nebraska got double-figure scoring efforts from four players. Pryce Sandfort had 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

--The Cornhuskers were 51 percent from the floor, 38 percent from three and 75 percent at the foul line (9-of-12).

--Both teams committed eight turnovers. Washington had 40 points in the paint vs. 26 for Nebraska.

What else needs improvement

The injuries and absences absolutely play a part in it, but Washington has to find a way to get more scoring. Outside of Steinbach and Diallo, no player had more than six points for the Huskies. The starters had just eight points total outside of them. Danny Sprinkle's group simply needs more, even as they bring less to the table.

Up next

The Huskies have dropped three straight and five of six. They'll get back in action on Sunday afternoon at home against Oregon (12 p.m. PT). Considering the Seahawks play in the NFC title game at 3:30 p.m. PT, expect a more sparse crowd at Alaska Airlines Arena. Our own Teren Kowatsch will be there in person.
