The Bruins continued their undefeated mark in Big Ten play in a solid showing against the Huskies

The Washington Huskies women's basketball team entered Thursday looking to hand the No. 2 UCLA Bruins their first Big Ten loss of the season at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

Instead, the Huskies became the 16th Big Ten team this season to fall at the hands of the Bruins, losing 82-67.

The loss dropped UW's overall record to 19-8 this season and 9-7 in Big Ten competition.

Washington started the game strong enough and prevented UCLA from pulling away for most of the first quarter. With 2 minutes, 42 seconds left in the first quarter, a 3-pointer from junior guard Sayvia Sellers cut the Huskies' deficit to 15-12.

However, the Bruins displayed the quick ability to string together points that's made them a top-3 team in the country and went on a 7-0 run to close out the first frame to go into the second quarter up 22-12.

The momentum from the first quarter carried over into the second for UCLA.

The Bruins outscored the Dawgs 14-5 to bolster their lead to 36-17 with 4:47 left in the first half.

The Huskies promptly responded and chipped away at UCLA's lead before going into halftime.

Washington outscored its foes 12-6 in the final four-and-a-half minutes of the first half and went into the break down 42-29.

The Huskies' frontcourt players helped keep the visitors in the game going into halftime. Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy had four points in the second quarter and senior center Yulia Grabovskaia had six, respectively.

McGaughy finished the game with a team-high 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting to go with three rebounds and an assist.

Washington wasn't able to make another push in the third quarter to get back within single digits of the Bruins.

The Huskies weren't able to get closer than 12 points in the third and UCLA led by as much as 17.

The Bruins went into the final 10 minutes up 63-48.

UCLA outscored Washington 6-0 in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. That early run in the final frame created too large a hill for the Huskies to climb.

Washington's deficit wasn't less than 14 points for the entirety of the fourth quarter.

Sellers finished the game with 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting (4-for-11 from 3-point range), seven assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore Huskies guard Avery Howell put up 17 points on a 7-for-12 clip to go with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Washington will next be in action against Nebraska at noon PT on Feb. 22 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
