The Huskies concluded their fall training camp with one last practice Thursday.
SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies football team's training camp has officially ended.
The Huskies concluded the fall offseason practice sessions Friday at Husky Stadium.
It was a lighter practice than it typically was with a large attendance, but the team still didn't let up with just nine days away from its season-opener in the Apple Cup against the Washington State Cougars, set for 1 p.m. PT on Sept. 6.
Here's several notes, observations and takeaways from Washington's final training camp practice:
Defensive line keeps up the intensity
As part of the light final day of training camp, the Huskies weren't full speed and only operated in shoulder pads.
This didn't stop the defensive line from continuing to play through the whistle.
On one of the final plays of the day, fourth-year defensive lineman Elinneus Davis punched out the football, which was recovered by fourth-year edge rusher Jacob Lane.
It was a solid end to offseason practice for Davis, who was consistently one of the best players on the team in offseason work.
Buddah ready to go
Last year, fifth-year linebacker Buddah Al-Uqdah had a lot of expectations entering the season, but saw those end before it ever truly began.
In his first year with the Huskies, Al-Uqdah saw his season end due to a knee injury in the second game of the year against his former squad, and his opponent Sept. 6, the Washington State Cougars.
Now, Al-Uqdah feels like he's 100% and is set to prove himself among a linebacker corps that's one of the strongest positions on the team.
Despite having an extra year of eligibility, Al-Uqdah didn't take the opportunity to transfer despite dealing with his recovery while simultaneously looking to compete for snaps against an experienced and talented linebacker room.
"I just wanted to be here," Al-Uqdah said after practice Friday. "I feel like this place is a really great place for me, for other kids coming to college. I want to be here. I really appreciate ... the whole coaching staff and love my teammates. Why not run it back?"
Other notes
-- The team opted to lean toward staying sharp than go full-out with the competition, and the projected starters on offense and defense went against the projected backups as a result.
The starting offense scored two touchdowns against the projected second-stringers. Projected starting running back Quaid Carr Jr. rushed four yards for a touchdown and and third-year quarterback Demond Williams Jr. scored a three-yard touchdown on a quarterback keeper.
