The Huskies will take on the Broncos on Dec. 13.

Sunday, P.M.: The bowl game has been confirmed by the school.

    SATURDAY, P.M.:

According to a report from On3, the University of Washington football team will play on the first day of the college football bowl season.

The Huskies will take on Boise State of the Mountain West, who just beat UNLV in the Mountain West championship game on Friday night. It will be the LA Bowl, which is played on Dec. 13 at SoFi Stadium at 5 p.m. PT.

Per ESPN, here is the full bowl season schedule. Only the Celebration Bowl, which is played at 9 a.m. PT, will come before the Huskies play.

    Why this is disappointing

The Huskies went 8-4 in the regular season, losing to Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Oregon. The record isn't as disappointing as the fact that college football is choosing to upend Army and Navy, which had been played as a stand-alone game for more than a decade.

This is the second straight year that the new bowl schedule has forced other games onto Army-Navy day, though the timeslot of that game (12:00 p.m. PT) is still protected.

    About Boise State

One of the prouder programs on the West Coast, the Broncos went 9-4 this regular season, including a 6-2 record in conference play.

The only losses for them came against South Florida (34-7), Notre Dame (28-7), Fresno State (30-7), and San Diego State (17-7).

They defeated UNLV 38-21 on Friday night. Maddux Madsen threw for 289 yards and three scores while the Broncos ran for 171 yards as a team.

The ties between the two programs

The biggest tie between the two is Chris Petersen, who served as the head coach for both programs. He captained Boise State for eight years, going 92-12 and turning them into one of the premier mid-major programs in America. He went to a bowl game in seven of eight years in Boise, including winning the Fiesta Bowl twice under the old BCS system.

At Washington, he went 55-26 over a six-year period, making a bowl game in each season. He won double-digit games three times and went to the Fiesta Bowl (2017) and Rose Bowl (2018). Washington lost both of those games.

    About the Huskies

Washington will have two weeks to prepare for this game after an off day on Dec. 6. The game will mark the final game in a Husky uniform for star running back Jonah Coleman, who is set to graduate.

The bowl schedule will be released on Sunday, and this matchup will be confirmed.
