Before Washington's 59-24 win against Washington State in the Apple Cup on Saturday, the Huskies had a player win the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award each week it played.
Senior running back Jonah Coleman won back-to-back Player of the Week honors in Weeks 1 and 2 for his performances against Colorado State and UC Davis, respectively. Washington had a bye week in Week 3 before its game against the Cougars.
The Huskies kept their streak of Player of the Week awards going. Sophomore quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was named the Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his showing against Washington State in the Apple Cup. Williams won it alongside Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza.
Williams went 16-for-19 for 298 yards and four touchdowns against the Cougars. Three of his touchdown passes came in the fourth quarter.
Williams also rushed 13 times for 88 yards and another touchdown. He finished the game with 386 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.
Williams helped lead a Washington offense that scored every single drive it had the ball, with the exception of the end-of-game kneel down. The Huskies scored eight touchdowns and made a field goal in the victory Saturday.
Williams, who's in the middle of his first full season as a starter, has been nearly perfect through Washington's first three games of the season.
This season, Williams has completed 73.5% of his passes (50-for-68) for 778 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions. He's rushed 34 times for 220 yards (6.5 yards a carry) and two touchdowns.
Williams was a four-star recruit out of high school and originally committed to Ole Miss before flipping his commitment to Arizona, where Jedd Fisch was the head coach at the time.
When Fisch was hired for the same position with the Huskies, Williams entered the transfer portal and followed Fisch to Washington.
Williams sat behind quarterback Will Rogers in 2024, but made appearances in all 13 games and started two of them as a true freshman.
Williams, alongside Coleman, have headed one the most potent offenses in the Big Ten this season.
Entering Monday, the Huskies are third in the conference behind Indiana and Southern California (USC) in yards per game (536) and first in points per game (55.7).
Washington will have a huge test against the No. 1 team in the country, Ohio State, at 12:30 p.m. PT on Sept. 27 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
