Former Huskies men's basketball assistant Quicy Pondexter confirmed rumors that he took a head coaching job with the Windy City Bulls.
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team entered this offseason needing to replace a majority of its roster.
The Huskies entered the offseason with only six players returning from head coach Danny Sprinkle's second year at the helm of the program.
One of the better assistant coaches on the staff, who has played a major role in recruiting during his time with the program, Quincy Pondexter, is moving on to the professional level.
It was rumored weeks ago that Pondexter would be leaving his current role with Washington to take the head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls' G-League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls.
On Tuesday, Pondexter confirmed the news in a goodbye post to the Huskies in a post on "X."
I am incredibly honored for the opportunity to serve as Head Coach of the Windy City Bulls. Leaving the University of Washington is bittersweet," Pondexter said in the post. "I am deeply thankful to Coach Sprinkle, the players, staff, Husky Nation, and the entire UW community for welcoming my family and I back, and allowing me to be part of such a special program. The relationships I built and the lessons I learned during my time at UW as a student, athlete, and a coach will stay with me throughout my coaching career. I am a Dawg forever. Becoming a head coach has always been a dream of mine, and I am excited to take this next step as I look forward to developing our players both on and off the court, building a strong culture, and competing daily. My family and I are excited to begin this new chapter in Chicago, and I am grateful to everyone who has supported (me) along the way. Let’s get to work!
Washington made a goodbye post to Pondexter on the men's basketball team's official "X" account.
Pondexter played his college ball with the Huskies from 2006-10, where he was a one-time first-team All-Pac-10 honoree in his senior season. Following his college career, Pondexter was selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the 26th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. His draft rights were later dealt to the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans.
Pondexter went on to have a nine-season NBA career with the Hornets/Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.
Following his retirement, Pondexter went into coaching and returned to Washington, where he served as an assistant under previous head coach Mike Hopkins from 2021-24. Following Hopkins' firing and Sprinkle's hiring, he took an assist job with Southern California (USC) for one season before returning to UW last year.
