The Washington Huskies men's basketball team saw another player join the professional ranks after 2025-26 forward Hannes Steinbach was selected 14th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets.

Steinbach became the 18th Husky all-time and first since 2020 to be selected in the first round of the draft.

The German forward will likely get regular moments almost right away due his elite rebounding and pick-and-roll skills, and with a spot on the roster being vacated with the trade of guard LaMelo Ball.

However, at least one former Washington player not guaranteed a spot on an NBA roster next season will be working in the Summer League to change that fact.

The Indiana Pacers released their Summer League roster. Among the players on that list was former Huskies forward Keion Brooks Jr.

Brooks played with Washington for two seasons from 2022-24. He joined the Huskies after spending time with the Kentucky Wildcats from 2019-22.

Before joining the Wildcats and subsequently transferring to the Huskies, Brooks was considered one of the best high school recruits in the Class of 2019. He was ranked as a five-star recruit and the 14th-best player in the country by the website.

Brooks initially entered the 2022 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. Rather than pushing to go pro that season, he opted to join Washington, where he was one of the top players in the Pac-12 in the final two years of his college career.

Brooks was named second-team All-Pac-12 his first season with the Huskies in '23 and first-team All-Pac-12 in '24.

In his first year with the Huskies in the '23-24 season, Brooks averaged 17.7 points across 30 games (all starts) on 43.3% shooting from the field in addition to 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game.

Brooks had an even better year to close out his college career. In the '23-24 season, he averaged 21.1 points across 32 contests (all starts) on a 48.7% clip from the field (38% from 3-point range) in addition to 6.8 rebounds.

Brooks' first-team all-conference season didn't lead to him being selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. After going undrafted, he joined the New Orleans Pelicans' Summer League roster and spent most of the season with the team's G-League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron.

Brooks stayed with the Pelicans organization until he was acquired in March by the Noblesville Boom, the Pacers G-League affiliate.

The 25-year-old's only time in the NBA came last season with New Orleans. He averaged 10.1 points on 48.6% shooting across 14 games (six starts) in addition to 4.1 rebounds per game.
