Salvon Ahmed made a highlight play for the Chicago Bears in their preseason opener.
The Washington Huskies football team has many more representatives in the NFL after several players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. Second-round draft pick wide receiver Denzel Boston (Cleveland Browns), third-round wide receiver Tacario Davis (Cincinnati Bengals) and fourth-round draft pick Jonah Coleman (Denver Broncos) are among the program alumni from last season looking to make an impact on their respective teams in the preseason.
That trio, plus the several others were were either drafted or signed to undrafted free agent contracts, will join a list of many former Huskies currently in the NFL.
One of those former Washington players had one of the most notable plays from the first week of the NFL preseason.
In a preseason game between the Chicago Bears and Browns, Bears running back Salvon Ahmed took a screen pass 49 yards to the house to give his team a 17-10 lead in the third quarter.
Ahmed's career has had several twists since he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Francisco 49ers on May 1, 2020. He was later waived by the 49ers on Aug. 25, 2020, and has been with several franchises since.
The former Husky's only and most sustained stint on the active roster came with the Miami Dolphins from 2020-23. During that stretch, Ahmed played in 38 games (started four) and ran 163 times for 593 yards and five touchdowns and caught 40 passes for 274 yards and another score.
Since that point, Ahmed spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and Broncos. He didn't register a snap in a regular season game with either team. With the Colts, he suffered an ankle injury Aug. 3, 2025, and spent the season on the reserved/injured list. He signed with Chicago on May 21.
Ahmed played with Washington from 2017-19. He played in 13 games as a true freshman in 2017 and became the team's full-time starter at running back in '19, succeeding fellow NFL'er and former Husky Myles Gaskin.
In his final year of college ball in '19, his only as a full-time starter, Ahmed ran 188 times for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns across 12 games. He finished his career with 353 carries for 2,016 yards and 21 touchdowns. He reeled in 50 passes for 331 yards. He received All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades for his junior and final season on Montlake.
D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai are currently the Bears' starting and backup running back, respectively. However, Ahmed has had a strong training camp and has a legitimate chance of making Chicago's 53-man roster as the third-string running back.
