Dante Pettis was recently re-signed by the San Francisco 49ers, who originally drafted him back in 2018.

One of the more notable Huskies from a decade ago recently received another opportunity in his NFL career.
According to several reports, the San Francisco 49ers have signed former Washington wide receiver Dante Pettis on Tuesday after a tryout with the team. Pettis was originally drafted by the 49ers in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He's currently assigned to San Francisco's practice squad.
The 49ers made the decision to sign Pettis due to a litany of injuries in the wide receivers room. Currently, Mike Evans, Demarcus Robinson, Ricky Pearsall and De'Zhaun Stribling are all out with various ailments.
Pettis' best year as a professional was his rookie year with San Francisco. He reeled in 27 passes for 467 yards and five touchdowns in 2018.
The 30-year-old pass-catcher went pro after a notable college career that saw him recognized as the best return specialist in the country in 2017. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 and was a consensus All-American that same season and led the NCAA in total punt return yardage and average yards returned per punt.
Pettis played with the Huskies from 2014-17. He caught 163 passes for 2,256 yards and 24 touchdowns across 53 games. He returned 90 total punts in his collegiate career for 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns. At the time his time in the Pacific Northwest ended, his nine punt return scores were the most in FBS history. That record still stands today.
Since Pettis was drafted, he's spent time with the 49ers, the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills.
Pettis last played a regular season game in 2025 with the Saints. He signed with the Bills on July 30 after a workout but was released Aug. 29 without appearing in a game with the team.
Pettis has 92 catches for 1,231 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career across 66 games played (21 starts).
Pettis could be activated to the 53-man roster on game day, which would take place against the Denver Broncos at 1:25 p.m. PT on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
If Pettis remains on the active roster for multiple weeks, he'll have a chance to return to Seattle to take on the Seattle Seahawks at 1:25 p.m. PT on Oct. 11 at Lumen Field in the Emerald City.
