The Huskies are firmly in NCAA Tournament contention based on recent bracketology projections from ESPN.

The No. 25 Washington Huskies women's basketball team has an opportunity to do something the program hasn't seen in nearly a decade.

In the 2024-25 season, the Huskies made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.

Currently Washington has an 18-6 overall record and an 8-5 mark in Big Ten competition. That mark has the Huskies firmly entrenched in NCAA Tournament contention.

If Washington finished the job and is named to the dance, it would be the first time since the 2016-17 teams the program has made back-to-back national tourneys. It would also mark the first time the Dawgs have accomplished that feat as members of the Big Ten conference. The 2016-17 teams made the tourney as Pac-12 representatives.

Based on recent bracketology projections from ESPN, the Huskies are on base to do just that.

Currently, ESPN has Washington slated as a No. 7 seed in the Baton Rouge, La., pod. ESPN has had the Huskies slated as a No. 7 seed, with the potential to make it as a No. 6 seed, for several weeks.

Other teams ESPN projects in Washington's pod include No. 2 seed LSU, No. 10 seed Utah and No. 15 seed Navy.

Barring an unexpected collapse, the Huskies seem to be well on their way to the tournament but they'll have several opportunities to earn a higher seed on the way there.

Washington will play the No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes at 4:30 p.m. PT on Feb. 11 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. The Huskies will also play the No. 2 UCLA Bruins at 7 p.m. PT on Feb. 19 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

In the Huskies' last NCAA Tournament berth last season, they made it as an 11-seed and played in the first four round of the tournament. They ultimately lost 63-60 to the Columbia Lions.

If Washington makes the tourney, it would be the third for head coach Tina Langley. In addition to UW's berth last year, Langley made it as the head coach of the Rice Owls in 2019.

An NCAA Tournament berth this season would be the Huskies' 21st in program history. They've made it to the Sweet Sixteen seven times, the Elite Eight three times and the Final Four once.

Washington will conclude the regular season at a to-be-determined time against Oregon on March 1 at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene, Ore. The Big Ten postseason tournament will take place from March 4-8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
