The Huskies will likely have Hannes Steinbach join the ranks of first-round NBA draft selections who spent their college years on Montlake.

The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft is set to begin at 5 p.m. PT on Tuesday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The second round will take place at 5 p.m. PT on Wednesday at the same time.

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team has had 17 players selected in the first round of the draft all-time, and will likely have one more player join those ranks Tuesday.

The Huskies' leading scorer and rebounder from a season ago, forward Hannes Steinbach, is projected to be selected in the mid-teens to early-20s in the 30-pick first round.

Here's a list of the past Washington first-rounders whose ranks Steinbach will likely be joining:

1948 -- Jack Nichols, F, Washington Capitols

Nichols played for the Huskies from 1943-44 and 1946-48 with a stint with the Southern California (USC) Trojans sandwiched in between. He was selected with the 12th overall pick in the draft by the Capitols before the Basketball Association of America merged with the National Basketball League, creating the NBA.

Nichols played with Washington from 1948-50, the Tri-City Blackhawks/Milwaukee Hawks from 1950-54 and Boston Celtics from 1954-58.

1953 -- Bob Houbregs, F, Milwaukee Hawks

Houbregs suited up for Washington from 1950-53. He was picked third overall by the Milwaukee Hawks. He played with the Hawks in 1953; the Baltimore Bullets from 1953-54; Celtics in 1954 and Fort Wayne/Detroit Pistons from 1954-58.

1985 -- Detlef Schrempf, F, Dallas Mavericks

Schrempf broke the three-decade streak of a lack of first round picks following Houbregs' selection. He was picked eighth overall by the Dallas Mavericks after playing with the Huskies from 1981-85. He played with the Mavericks from 1985-89; Indiana Pacers from 1989-93; Seattle SuperSonics from 1993-99 and Portland Trail Blazers from 1999-2001.

1987 -- Christian Welp, C, Philadelphia 76ers

Welp played with Washington from 1983-87 and was selected 16th overall by the 76ers. He played with Philadelphia from 1987-89; the San Antonio Spurs from 1989-90 and Golden State Warriors in 1990.

2005 -- Nate Robinson, G, Phoenix Suns

Robinson was the first player this millennium to be selected in the first round who spent his collegiate career with the Huskies. He played on Montlake from 2002-05.

Robinson was picked by the Suns with the 21st overall pick and dealt to the New York Knicks on draft night. He played for the Knicks from 2005-10; Boston from 2010-11; Oklahoma City Thunder in 2011; Warriors in 2012; the Chicago Bulls from 2012-13; Denver Nuggets in '13-15; Los Angeles Clippers in '15; and New Orleans Pelicans in '15.

2006 -- Brandon Roy, G, Minnesota Timberwolves

Roy suited up with Washington from 2002-06. He was picked sixth overall in the 2006 draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves and immediately had his draft rights traded to the Trail Blazers.

Roy played for Portland from 2006-11 and Minnesota from 2012-13.

2007 -- Spencer Hawes, C, Sacramento Kings

Hawes was with the Huskies from 2006-07. He was selected with the 10th overall pick by the Kings.

Hawes played with Sacramento from 2007-10; Philadelphia from 2010-14; Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014; Los Angeles from 2014-15; the Charlotte Hornets from 2015-17; and the Milwaukee Bucks from 2017.

2010 -- Quincy Pondexter, F, Oklahoma City Thunder

Pondexter was picked with the 26th overall selection by the Thunder after a four-year stint in Washington from 2006-10.

Pondexter had his draft rights traded to New Orleans Hornets shortly after being picked by Oklahoma City. He played with the Hornets from 2010-11; Memphis Grizzlies from 2011-15; New Orleans Pelicans from 2015-17; the Bulls from 2017-18; and the Spurs from 2018-19.

2012 -- Terrence Ross, G, Toronto Raptors

Ross was selected with the eighth overall pick in the draft after playing with the Huskies from 2010-12. He played with Toronto from '12-17, the Orlando Magic from 2017-23 and the Suns in '23.

2012 -- Tony Wroten, G, Memphis Grizzlies

Wroten suited up for Washington from 2011-12 and was picked with the Grizzlies with the 25th overall selection. He played in Memphis from 2012-13 and the 76ers from 2013-15.

2014 -- CJ Wilcox, G, Los Angeles Clippers

Wilcox was the 28th overall pick by the Clippers in the '14 draft after a stint with the Huskies from 2010-14.

Wilcox played with Los Angeles from 2014-16 and Orlando from 2016-17.

2016 -- Marquese Chriss, F, Sacramento Kings

Chriss played with Washington from 2015-16 and was picked eighth overall by the Kings. He had his draft rights traded to Phoenix on draft night.

Chriss played with the Suns from 2016-18; the Houston Rockets from 2018-19; the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019; Golden State from 2019-21; and Dallas from 2021-22. He's currently in the Chinese Basketball Association with the Shandong Hi-Speed Kirin.

2016 -- Dejounte Murray, G, San Antonio Spurs

Murray was the 29th overall pick in the '16 draft, joining Chriss as a first-round selection. He was with UW from 2015-16.

Murray is still actively playing in the NBA. He was with the Spurs from '16-22; the Atlanta Hawks from 2022-24; and the Pelicans from '24-present.

2017 -- Markelle Fultz, G, Philadelphia 76ers

Fultz was with the Huskies from '16-17 and ended up as the first, and to this point only, first round-round pick in program history by the 76ers in the '17 draft.

Fultz played with Philadelphia from 2017-19; Orlando from 2019-24; Sacramento in '25 and Toronto in '26. He's currently assigned to the Raptors G-League affiliate, the Raptors 905.

2019 -- Matisse Thybulle, G, Boston Celtics

Thybulle had a lengthy stint with Washington from '15-19. He was the 20th overall pick by the Celtics but had his draft rights traded to Philadelphia in '19.

Thybulle was with the 76ers from '19-23 and was with the Trail Blazers from '23-present.

2020 -- Isaiah Stewart, F, Portland Trail Blazers

Stewart was picked by Portland with the 16th overall pick in the '20 draft after one season with the Huskies from '19-20.

Steward had his draft rights traded to Houston on Nov. 22, 2020, and Detroit two days later, where he's played since.

2020 -- Jaden McDaniels, F, Los Angeles Lakes

McDaniels was the most recent of former Washington players to be picked in the first round. He suited up for one season in the Emerald City from '19-20 before being selected 28th overall by the Lakers in the '20 draft.

Los Angeles traded McDaniels to Oklahoma City and then Minnesota. He's spent his entire career with the Timberwolves since.
