Tony Castricone will leave his position covering Huskies men's basketball games to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers radio booth.
The radio calls for the Washington Huskies men's basketball and football teams this season will look very different than it has for nearly a decade.
It was announced Tuesday that UW director of broadcasting and lead radio play-by-play commentator Tony Castricone would be departing the Pacific Northwest after nine seasons as the lead voice for Huskies football and men's basketball.
Castricone will join the broadcast booth for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he'll serve as the new radio play-by-play announcer.
Castricone will replace former Buccaneers play-by-play commentator Gene Deckerhoff, who spent 37 years calling Tampa Bay games.
Castricone has a broadcasting career spanning over 20 years. After graduating from Ohio University in 2005, he spent five years from 2005-10 with WBNS in Columbus, Ohio.
Castricone had multiple stops after which included serving as a pre-,post-game and halftime reporter for Notre Dame football, covering Clemson men's basketball games and filling in for game broadcasts for several programs, including Ole Miss and Michigan men's basketball, among others.
Castricone joined the UW broadcast booth in August of 2017. He also produced and hosted several coaches' shows and podcasts. Similar to his new role with the Buccaneers, he joined Washington and replaced another three-decade-long veteran, Bob Rondeau, who was in the role for 37 years.
In Castricone's tenure, the Huskies made the College Football Playoff national championship in the 2023-24 season and called the last season in which the men's basketball team made the NCAA tournament in 2019.
"It has been an incredible nine years," Castricone said in a post shared on "X." "More than I ever could have dreamt or asked for. ... To you fans, you all make this the greatest setting in college football. Thank you for welcoming in a kid from a 46-acre pine tree farm in Centerburg, Ohio, the Pacific Northwest and making me one of your own. It has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to share the last nine years' worth of fantastic memories with you. ... I will always be a Dawg until the day I die."
It wasn't immediately announced how the broadcast booth will be set up with Castricone's departure, but there will be several months for both programs for the university to decide.
The football team's season begins in the Apple Cup against the Washington State Cougars at 1 p.m. PT on Sept. 6 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
The men's basketball team's schedule is still to-be-announced.
