One of the longest-tenured broadcasters to cover the Washington Huskies men's basketball team will be calling it a career.
According to a story from Percy Allen of the Seattle Times, Jason Hamilton will retire from radio broadcasting duties some time in March.
Hamilton has been tied to the Huskies men's basketball team for the better part of three decades, 24 of them as a radio analyst.
"... It has gotten increasingly more challenging to do it all," Hamilton said in Allen's story. "And so, while I would have loved to continue to do it — quite honestly, forever — it’s just very hard to continue to manage all the responsibilities and continue to do it."
The 51-year-old Renton, Wash., native's time in Montlake began as a men's basketball player. He transferred from San Diego State to Washington in 1994 and was a two-year starter under nine-year head coach Bob Bender.
Among Hamilton's accomplishments as a player was setting the program's single-game steals record (nine) in a game against Eastern Washington on Nov. 28, 1996.
Hamilton spent three years on Bender's staff as an assistant coach from 1996-99. He then spent several years as an agent before getting hired as a radio analyst in 2002.
As a coach and a broadcaster, Hamilton has been a part of four of Washington's seven all-time Sweet Sixteen appearances.
He was an assistant coach on the team's 1998 run to the Sweet Sixteen and called games during the program's runs in 2005-06 and 2010.
Hamilton was hired by broadcaster Bob Rondeau, the latter of which retired in 2017 after 32 years on the job.
"He’s awesome," current Huskies head coach Danny Sprinkle said in Allen's article. "He’s so fun to be with on the road. He’s got a great perspective. He loves Husky basketball. He’s tremendous at what he does. And our players respect him. He’s one of those guys whose the same every day. He’s got great energy. He’s always got a smile, win or lose. In the airports in the gym, it doesn’t matter. He’s one of those guys you look forward to seeing."
Whenever Washington plays it's final game this season will be the last game Hamilton will call.
The Huskies have five more games left in the regular season: a road game against Maryland on Feb. 21; a road game against Rutgers on Feb. 24; a home game against No. 24 Wisconsin on Feb. 28, a home game against USC on March 4 and a road game against Oregon on March 7.
After the regular season concludes, Washington will compete in the Big Ten tournament, which takes place from March 10-15 at the United Center in Chicago. Depending on how well the Big Ten tournament goes for the Huskies, Hamilton could be on the call for the Non Invitation Tournament (NIT) or NCAA Tournament.
