The Storm parted ways with former Husky Elle Ladine after the WNBA squad's final preseason game
One of the best players in the recent history of the Washington Huskies women's basketball team saw her brief time with a WNBA team come to an end Thursday.
Guard Elle Ladine, who played her final year with the Huskies this past season, was signed by the WNBA's Seattle Storm to a training camp contract this spring.
Ladine played in both of the Storm's preseason games: a 78-76 loss against the Golden State Valkyries on April 25 and a 91-81 win against the Portland Fire on April 29.
The San Francisco native played six minutes in both contests, respectively. Against the Valkyries, Ladine failed to convert on two shot attempts but went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. Against the Fire, Ladine scored three points on a 1-for-2 mark from 3-point range, pulled in a rebound and had a steal.
Ladine's former Husky teammates were in the stands at Climate Pledge Arena in the Emerald City for Seattle's game against Portland.
Unfortunately, Ladine was not able to do enough to carve out a role on the regular season roster, as the Storm waived her along with several other players Thursday.
In Ladine's last year with UW last season, she scored 9.9 points on 39.6% from the floor across 27 games (26 starts). He also averaged five rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. She missed the first six games of the year due to an undisclosed injury.
In Ladine's last healthy season in 2024-25, she scored a career-high 17 points across 33 games (all starts) on 47.3% from the floor (including a 39.3% mark from 3-point range). She also averaged 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. She led the Big Ten in 3-point percentage during conference play (44.1%).
Ladine was named second-team All-Big Ten after her junior season and was on the preseason All-Big Ten list before last season began. She was a part of the first recruiting class for head coach Tina Langley and finished her collegiate career with 220 made 3-pointers, which ranks eighth in program history.
Unless she gets another shot with the Storm at some point this season, Ladine's four-year basketball career in the Emerald City is now officially at an end.
If Ladine's basketball career in the Pacific Northwest (or at least Seattle) is at an end, she still owns the honor of being one of the best players in the recent resurgence of the UW women's basketball program.
