Congratulations are in order for University of Washington running back Jonah Coleman, who was just named to the watch list for the prestigious Paul Hornung Award, which goes to the nation's most versatile player.
Coleman, a senior, is one of six finalists for the award.
Per a release from the University Athletic Department
The Paul Hornung Award is given annually by the Louisville Sports Commission to the most versatile player in major college football. The award was created by the Louisville Sports Commission in January 2010 with the support of the Golden Boy himself, Paul Hornung, a native and lifelong resident of Louisville and member of the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. The winner will be announced on Dec. 11.
One of the earliest stars of the NFL, Hornung spent nine years in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. A two-time Pro Bowler, he was a two-time All-Pro as well. He won the Super Bowl in 1961 and was a four-time NFL champion before the merger. He played for the Hall of Famer Vince Lombardi and is in the Hall of Fame himself. He was inducted in 1986.
The Huskies standout has played eight games thus far and he leads the Big 10 in rushing touchdowns with 13. He leads the nation in total touchdowns when you factor in his two receiving TDs. He's averaging 80.4 yards per game on the ground, and he's also averaging 39.5 receiving yards per contest. He's a major reason why Washington is ranked No. 24 in the most current AP Top 25 poll. They will play at Wisconsin this upcoming Saturday (1:30 p.m. PT).
In addition to the Hornung Award, he's also up for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is given the nation's top scholar-athlete. Washington athletics notes that he has a 3.93 GPA.
Coleman figures to be drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, and early indications are that he could be a top-three running back selection.
In the video above, Fisch cites Coleman's leadership qualities, saying that he has "taken over" the locker room. He also compared his ability around the goal line to former Los Angeles Rams star Todd Gurley, who played collegiately at Georgia.
