Bryson Tucker will be out an undisclosed amount of time with a thumb injury

SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies men's basketball team added a much-needed game to the win column in a 69-57 win against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.

The victory snapped a three-game skid for the Huskies. Coming off a 63-60 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday, Saturday was the definition of a get-right win for Washington — which has its NCAA Tournament hopes essentially hinging on a very deep run or championship in the upcoming Big Ten postseason tournament.

But, as has been the case all season for the Huskies, the win didn't come without its drawbacks.

Sophomore Washington forward Bryson Tucker was out Saturday due to a thumb injury, which he suffered in the team's loss against Penn State. Tucker was sporting a noticeable brace on his right hand before the game.

After the contest, Huskies head coach Danny Sprinkle was unable to provide clarity on the exact timeline for Tucker to return to action.

"Hopefully this week he can heal up pretty quick," head coach Danny Sprinkle said in a postgame interview Saturday. " ... I actually shouldn't say anything because I don't know. I have to actually check with our trainer."

This is the second injury Tucker has suffered this season that has kept him out of a game.

The former Indiana Hoosier suffered an ankle sprain earlier in the year that kept him out for six games over the course of more than a month from early November to mid-December.

Tucker has become a crucial player for Washington over the last several weeks due to various other injuries on the team and was in the starting lineup for the last several games alongside other frontcourt players, freshman forward Hannes Steinbach and senior center Franck Kepnang.

Tucker is averaging 6.2 points per game this season on 43.9% shooting from the floor in just over 23 minutes per game. He's also pulled in 4.3 rebounds per game.

Luckily for Tucker and the Huskies, the team will have a week-long layoff before it's next contest.

Washington will next be in action at noon PT on Feb. 21 against the Maryland Terrapins at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland.

The Huskies have five more games left in the regular season and could finish out the year with a .500 mark in Big Ten play (10-10) if they run the table. If they do, they'll carry that momentum into the Big Ten tournament, which takes place from March 10-15 at the United Center in Chicago.
