Darius Wabbington had extremely complimentary words for the Huskies in a recent interview
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team is still looking for a winning season under head coach Danny Sprinkle.
In Sprinkle's two years at the helm of the team, the team finished 13-18 in the 2024-25 season and 16-17 in the '25-26 season, respectively.
Despite the results not being what Sprinkle and the Huskies would have wanted, the former Montana State and Utah State head coach has garnered a reputation as a solid recruiter in the high school ranks and in the transfer portal.
Sprinkle and the rest of the coaching staff added one player from the 2026 high school class in three-star small forward Lattimore Ford.
The staff is hard at work to make sure the 2027 recruiting class has more than just one commitment.
Washington is one of the top teams being considered by top 20 recruit Malachi Jordan. The Huskies are also reportedly high on the list of another top 20 player.
The Huskies are also trying to land 6-foot-11, 245-pound center Darius Wabbington.
Wabbington currently attends Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix. He's a five-star player according to the 247Sports Composite. He averaged 17.2 points for Sunnyslope on 53.3% shooting from the floor across 30 games. He also averaged 9.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest.
Wabbington is ranked as the 16th-best player, third-best center and fourth-best player in the state per the Composite. Rivals has him ranked as the 16th-best player in the class per their Rivals150 rankings.
Wabbington has offers from several teams, including Texas, Indiana, Arizona, Alabama and Purdue, among others.
The Phoenix resident took an official visit with Washington in Seattle on Oct. 24, 2025.
Currently, Wabbington's only official visit has been with the Huskies.
Wabbington spoke about several teams interested in him in a recent interview with Jamie Shaw of Rivals.com. The near-7-footer had a lot of kind words for Sprinkle and Washington in the interview.
"Their coach (Sprinkle) comes from a winning background," Wabbington said in the interview. "You know, (assistant coach Quincy Pondexter), he played in the league. They have great alumni there, a lot of pros. They have the resources in place. Their practice schedule is legit. I’ve watched one of their practices, it’s high intensity. They’re just a really good program, I like what they’re building over there."
Wabbington said he "doesn't have a time frame yet" when he'll start making more official visits or making the decision on his commitment.
Per Rivals' prediction model, Arizona has the highest odds at landing Wabbington at 42.2% and the Huskies are second at 36.9%.
