The Washington Huskies men's basketball team will enter the 2026-27 season looking to make its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2019.

The Huskies are looking to add the final spots on the roster in efforts of putting together a team that can make the program's first national tourney of the decade.

While Washington is looking to take care of the final spots on the roster, one of the longest-tenured coaches in the program and the only one to be in Montlake for UW's last berth into March Madness will be joining another school.

Huskies special assistant to the head coach Jerry Hobbie will be joining TCU Horned Frogs head coach Jamie Dixon's coaching staff as an assistant.

Hobbie has been with Washington's staff for nine seasons, including seven under former head coach Mike Hopkins.

Hobbie had stayed with the staff after Hopkins' tenure for current head coach Danny Sprinkle's first two seasons in his current role.

In his nearly three decades of coaching experience, Hobbie served in a variety of different roles. He spent seven seasons with Southern Methodist (SMU) from 2010-17, where he worked as an assistant coach, director of operations, director of recruiting and special assistant to the head coach.

Hobbie has also spent time on the coaching staff with universities like Houston and Fairfield University.

When it comes to his work with the players, Hobbie has a background as a notable coach for shooting, with his resume including a four-year stint at Fordham in the early 1980s.

Hobbie has worked with several NBA draft picks during his time on SMU and Washington's coaching staffs.

Among the notable NBA draft picks he's worked with include Jaden McDaniels, Matisse Thybulle, Jaylen Nowell and Isaiah Stewart with Washington and Sterling Brown, Shake Milton and Semi Ojeleye with SMU.

Hobbie's background as a shooter and a recruiter will be a big loss for the Huskies.

Washington was unable to find consistency from 3-point range this past season and will be looking to integrate at least nine new players to the roster.

The Huskies were 17th in the 18-team Big Ten in 3-point percentage this past season (31.5%) and 15th in 3-point makes per game (6.7). The only team that was worse in the Big Ten in 3-point percentage than Washington was the Southern California (USC) Trojans.

If Washington reaches the max capacity of players allowed on a roster (15), than it will have nine players on the roster who weren't on the team last season and will be learning Sprinkle's offense for the first time.
