Derek Colman-Brusa earned his second true freshman All-American honor and Jeron Jones joined him.
The Washington Huskies football team had a bye this past week and will be back in action to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at 5 p.m. PT on Oct. 31 (Halloween) at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
Despite not playing a game this week, the Huskies (4-3 overall, 1-3 in Big Ten play) still earned some individual wins when it came to the roster.
Fourth-year safety Alex McLaughlin was named to Sporting News' midseason All-American team and first-year defensive tackle Derek Colman-Brusa was named to On3's true freshman All-American team.
The Athletic's Mike Navarro released the publication's own All-Freshman team Oct. 20. Once again, Colman-Brusa was featured on the list as one of two defensive tackles.
The list also included five general defensive back spots, which included cornerback Jeron Jones.
Colman-Brusa was tabbed as a likely starter on the defensive line from early on in spring practice and opened the season as one of two true freshman starters on the team's defensive line, alongside edge rusher Ramzak Fruean.
Colman-Brusa, who was the top recruit in the state of Washington in the Class of 2026, has 11 total tackles this season (six solo), including two tackles for loss, one sack and one pass defended.
Here's what Navarro said about Colman-Brusa in the article:
The Seattle native and former four-star recruit has 11 tackles, including two (tackles for loss) and one sack, with 10 pressures over seven starts and 242 snaps. Colman-Brusa made an immediate impact in the season-opening win over Washington State, tipping a third-down pass into fellow freshman Jeron Jones’ arms for an interception.
Jones wasn't slotted as a starter at the onset of spring practice like Colman-Brusa was, but saw a lot of time with the starters in the offseason due to starting nickelback, third-year Rahshawn Clark, and starting outside cornerbacks, second-year Dylan Robinson and fourth-year Emmanuel Karnley, all missing time with minor injuries.
The first-year cornerback has seen time at the starting nickelback and outside cornerback positions this season due to injuries to Clark and Karnley and is the fourth corner on the depth chart when everyone is healthy.
Jones has 19 total tackles this season (14 solo), including a half-tackle for loss, two interceptions and four passes defended.
Here's what Navarro had to say about Jones in the article:
The (5-foot-11), 180-pound Southern California native has two interceptions and two pass breakups over 246 defensive snaps. The former four-star recruit has allowed completions on only 11 of 23 targets for 86 yards and one touchdown. Jones returned from a one-game absence against Iowa to intercept a pass in Washington’s win at Purdue
