The Washington Huskies men's basketball team has been ransacked by injuries this season.
The Huskies had five players out for their 76-66 loss against the No. 7 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Jan. 21.
Freshman forward Jasir Rencher, sophomore center Lathan Sommerville, sophomore guard Wesley Yates III, junior forward Mady Traore and senior guard Desmond Claude were all out for Washington against Nebraska.
In addition to those aforementioned players, freshman forward Hannes Steinbach and sophomore forward Bryson Tucker have also missed multiple games this season.
Due to the injuries, several players have had to step up and play an unexpected amount of minutes.
One of those players is freshman guard Courtland Muldrew.
Muldrew, who was a four-star recruit in the class of 2025, was expected to redshirt this season. The Huskies had to burn through Muldrew's redshirt due to injuries earlier this season.
Even with redshirting no longer on the table, Muldrew has still been used in a limited capacity. He's played in eight of Washington's 19 games this season. Before the game against the Cornhuskers, Muldrew hadn't played more than 11 minutes or attempted more than four shots in a single contest.
Muldrew saw his time on the court and production increase against Nebraska.
Muldrew played a season-high 26 minutes against the Cornhuskers. He scored five points on 2-for-5 shooting (1-for-2 from the free-throw line), pulled in four rebounds, dished three assists and blocked a shot.
In a quote published in a story from Roman Tomashoff of Huskies Wire, head coach Danny Sprinkle discussed Muldrew after the game against Nebraska on Jan. 21.
"I loved how (Muldrew) competed," Sprinkle said. "He got the ball to the paint in the first half when we were struggling to get past guys, and I thought he did a great job having three assists. But just his aggressiveness and competitive spirit, I thought it really changed the game for us because him and Zoom (Diallo) were the two guys in that first half that were able to get the ball into the paint and make them collapse a little bit."
According to Tomashoff's report, Sprinkle expects Yates to return for the Huskies' game against the Oregon Ducks at noon on Jan. 25 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. Rencher's status is still in question, which could lead to Muldrew getting another opportunity at extended minutes.
Washington will enter the game against Oregon 10-9 on the season and 2-6 in Big Ten competition.
