The 2025-26 season saw the Washington Huskies women's basketball team reach heights that it hadn't seen since UW Athletics Hall of Famer Kelsey Plum was with the program.

In the 2026 NCAA tournament, the Huskies won a game in March Madness for the first time since 2017. It was four points away in overtime from downing the TCU Horned Frogs and advancing to the Sweet Sixteen.

Washington's best season in nearly a decade ended with a 72-69 loss to TCU in the Round of 32 and a final record of 22-11.

Even with the Huskies' season ending in a closely-contested game, there was still reason for optimism for the future.

Almost all of Washington's best players from last season will be returning to the program this season, including guard Sayvia Sellers.

The soon-to-be senior was the best player on the Huskies last season and will be entering her final year of college ball.

Sellers was a member of head coach Tina Langley's second recruiting class but has been a critical member in laying the groundwork of the current culture of the team. Now, UW is on the cusp of greatness and Sellers will have a chance to lead the program to new heights in her final year at the college level.

The Anchorage, Alaska, native averaged 18 points on 47.3% shooting (35.4% from 3-point range) across 33 games (all starts). She also averaged 3.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.

Sellers was expected to be one of the best players in the Big Ten entering last season. She was named to the preseason All-Big Ten list before the season began. She managed to exceed those expectations.

Sellers was named to the first-team All-Big Ten list to end the season.

Beyond just her ability as an individual, her supporting cast will arguably be the best it's been in her college career.

Sellers will be without former All-Big Ten guard Elle Ladine, who graduated at the end of the season. Starting center Yulia Grabovskaia and fellow starting guard Hannah Stines were also among the list of players who ran out of eligibility.

Returning to the team will be several players Sellers helped lead the team to its NCAA tournament season with. Junior guard Avery Howell, who was named All-Big Ten honorable mention last season, will also be returning. Big Ten All-Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy will also be returning to Montlake.

UW also fortified the rest of its team by landing notable transfers such as 6-foot-6 center Tylda Trigger (North Carolina State), Brooke Carlson (Colorado State) and Macey Huard (Oklahoma State).

Langley's and Sellers' combined tenure at UW has been a steady progression in terms of results. That progression, and the supporting cast to work with, could lead to Sellers' best season in the Pacific Northwest being her last.
