The Huskies have lost JJ Mandaquit and could potentially lose out on Zoom Diallo via the transfer portal
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team are coming off a disappointing season where they finished 16-17 overall and failed to make it to the NCAA tournament for a sixth-straight season.
The Huskies were plagued with injuries that forced them to play with seven-to-eight scholarship players in multiple games.
It was an unfortunate development for Washington, who completely retooled the roster in the offseason. Only two players on the team this past season were on the roster the prior season.
The Huskies are already in a position where they'll have to replace several spots on the team for the 2026-27 season. Freshman forward Hannes Steinbach will likely enter the NBA draft. Freshman guard Courtland Muldrew announced he was entering the transfer portal earlier this week.
Another talented freshman, guard JJ Mandaquit, will also be exiting Washington. According to a report on "X" from ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Borzello, Madaquit will be entering the transfer portal.
One of the most highly-touted recruits of head coach Danny Sprinkle's two years with the program, sophomore Zoom Diallo, also announced his intention to enter the transfer portal with the option of returning to the Pacific Northwest. The news came via a report on "X" from 247Sports recruiting analyst Dushawn London.
The Class of 2025 guard was considered a top 100 prospect by most publications. He was listed as a four-star recruit and was listed as the No. 74 prospect and 10th-best point guard in the class, according to 247Sports.
Mandaquit joined the program with a stellar resume in high school. He competed for Team USA in the FIBA U19 World Cup the prior summer to starting college and helped lead them to a gold medal.
Mandaquit played 22 games and started six this past season for UW. He averaged 5.2 points per game on 43.6% shooting and also averaged 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds. He missed several games to end the season due to a foot injury that required surgery.

The Tacoma, Wash., was ranked as the 54th-best player in the Class of 2024 according to 247Sports and will likely be one of the top guards available in the portal.
Diallo averaged 15.7 points per game on 48.9% shooting this past year and also averaged 4.5 assists and 3.9 rebounds. He played in all 33 games for Washington and started 29. He was one of the two players, alongside senior center Franck Kepnang, who returned to the team after Sprinkle's first year as head coach (2024-25).
Diallo released the following statement regarding his decision to enter the portal:
"First, I just want to thank Allah for guiding me every step of the way. I'm really grateful for my family and everyone who's supported me throughout this journey.
Growing up, it was always a dream of mine to play for UW. Being able to wear 'Washington' across my chest is something I'll never take for granted.
I want to thank the University of Washington for the opportunity. I'm thankful for all the memories and relationships I built during my time here. I especially appreciate coach Sprinkle for believing in me and helping me grow on and off the court.
To my teammates over the last two years, thank you for everything. The bond we built means a lot to me, and that's something I'll carry with me forever.
And to the fans and the Seattle community, thank you for always showing love to a hometown kid and sticking with me through the ups and downs. I'm forever grateful, for real.
After much thought and prayer, I've decided to do what's best for my future and family. I will be entering the transfer portal while still keeping the option open to return to Washington."
