The Washington Huskies women's basketball team are well on their way to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. If the Huskies do accomplish that feat, it will be the first time it's done so since the 2016-17 teams.
Washington entered Tuesday with a 19-7 overall record and a 9-6 mark in Big Ten play. It's the second consecutive season UW has registered at least 19 wins.
Leading the way for the Huskies the entire season has been junior guard Sayvia Sellers.
The third-year player has been a multiple-time U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week winner and earned another major honor Tuesday.
Sellers was named to the Naismith Women's College Player of the Year late-season team Tuesday, which honors several of the best players in the country.
Sellers was one of 30 players to earn the honor.
Other players included in the list from the Big Ten are: senior UCLA center Lauren Betts, sophomore Ohio State guard Jaloni Cambridge, freshman USC guard Jazzy Davidson, junior Maryland guard Oluchi Okananwa, sophomore Michigan guard Olivia Olson, senior UCLA guard Kiki Rice, sophomore Michigan guard Syla Swords and senior Michigan State forward Grace VanSlooten.
Big Ten players represent nine of the 30 players on the late-season team.
Sellers this year leads Washington in points per game with 19.3. That's almost six points more than the team's second-highest scorer, Avery Howell (13.5 points per game).
Sellers has reached that mark on 49.6% shooting from the floor, which is the highest on the team among players that have played at least half of games this season. She's also averaging 3.5 assists per game this year, which leads the team. Her 37.2% mark from 3-point range is second on the team behind Howell.
Plum is the first player in Huskies history since Kelsey Plum in 2017 to be featured on the list.
In addition to her team-leading numbers, Sellers also has accomplished several impressive career and single-game marks this season. Sellers became the first player since Plum in 2014 to score at least 35 points, have five assists and multiple steals and blocks in a single game. Sellers accomplished that in UW's 83-80, double-overtime win against Maryland on Jan. 28.
Sellers also crossed the 1,000 career-points threshold in Washington's 70-60 loss against Ohio State on Feb. 5
Sellers and the Huskies will look to continue to build on a strong season in their next game against the No. 2 UCLA Bruins at 7 p.m. PT on Feb. 19 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
