Class of 2027 small forward Malachi Jordan had the Huskies as one of his final eight teams.
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team wasn't able to have its usual success in recruiting for high school graduates in 2026 as it did in the previous two seasons under head coach Danny Sprinkle.
With only six players returning from last season, the Huskies were only able to land one commitment from the Class of 2026: three-star small forward Lattimore Ford.
Washington filled out the rest of its roster for this upcoming season with a combination of transfer portal additions and international commitments.
The Huskies are making a concerted effort to make sure they don't have to rely on their international recruiting pipeline for seasons in the future.
Washington has extended offers and/or has landed official visits with several of the top players in the Class of 2027, and recently made the list of final teams being considered by one of the top programs in the country.
According to an article from Rivals.com reporter Joe Tipton, five-star Class of '27 small forward Malachi Jordan has cut down his list of teams down to eight teams: the Vanderbilt Commodores, Alabama Crimson Tide, Kansas Jayhawks, Tennessee Volunteers, UConn Huskies, Southern California (USC) Trojans, Ohio State Buckeyes and UW.
The Huskies have already hosted Jordan for an official visit, meaning their placement on the five-star's final list is a positive sign the visit went well.
Jordan will go on official visits with the Trojans on Sept. 4, the Jayhawks on Sept. 12, Commodores on Sept. 19, the Volunteers on Sept. 26 and UConn on Oct. 4.
Jordan attends Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 6-foot-6 small forward ranks as the 13th-best player in the nation, third-best small forward and seventh-best player in Florida, per the 247Sports composite.
Rivals.com's industry rankings has Jordan ranked as the 14th-best player in the country, second-best small forward and fifth-best player in Florida in the class.
Currently, it seems like Jordan's recruitment is still wide open with the Commodores holding a slight edge.
According to Rivals.com, Vanderbilt has the likeliest odds to earn a commitment from Jordan at 20.2%. Tennessee has the second-highest odds at 17.7%, Kansas has the third-best odds at 15.2% and Washington has the fourth-highest odds at 12.6%.
The Huskies missed out on landing several notable top prospects from the 2026 recruiting class, including Dylan Mingo and Tyran Stokes, but landing a high-end recruit like Jordan could spell a turn of fortunes for UW on the recruiting trail.
