The Huskies recently hosted former Garfield High School shooting guard and four-star Class of 2027 player Jimmie Haywood.
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team is continuing its concerted effort in recruiting for the Class of 2027 and beyond.
The past weekend appeared to be a big one when it came to recruiting in Huskies athletics. The football team, which beat the Washington State Cougars 24-10 in the Apple Cup, hosted several blue-chip recruits and current commitments from a variety of different classes.
The basketball team got in on the hosting and brought in four-star shooting guard Jimmie Jaywood for an official visit on Montlake, per a post on "X" from Huskies Wire reporter Lars Hanson.
Haywood currently attends Compass Prep in Chandler, Ariz., but has ties to the Pacific Northwest as he used to attend Garfield High School in Seattle.
Haywood is a top-150 player in the Class of 2027. His player page on 247Sports has him as having received offers from the Huskies and Nevada Wolfpack. On3 Sports' prediction model doesn't have a favorite between the two teams to land the shooting guard.
In his junior season last year at Compass Prep, Haywood averaged 6.2 points across 25 games on 44% shooting from the floor (30% from 3-point range) in addition to bringing in 1.4 rebounds per game, per MaxPreps.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound player is ranked 135th overall, the 17th-best shooting guard and the 13th-best player in Arizona in the class, per the 247Sports composite.
Washington hosting Haywood continues a trend of more concerted high school recruiting on the part of head coach Danny Sprinkle and the rest of the coaching staff.
The Huskies have already been announced as finalists to land several notable players in the Class of '27, including small forwards Malachi Jordan and Deng Ngor and landed an official visit with power forward Ahmed Nur.
Ngor and Nur are both four-star recruits and Jordan is a five-star.
Washington's men's basketball program has been, generally, successful on the recruiting trail under Sprinkle, landing notable players such as Zoom Diallo, J.J. Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew, among others.
However, this offseason, the Huskies landed only one player in the Class of 2026: three-star small forward Lattimore Ford. Washington filled the remaining eight spots on the roster with a combination of transfer portal additions and three international recruits: forward Wini Braga (Brazil), forward Boris Tisma (Croatia) and guard Tristan Devers (Australia).
Sprinkle only had to fill nine spots on the roster this offseason, which was an improvement from last year where he only had two players return to the roster from his first year as head coach.
However, with the current state of college athletics and the significant and consistent amount of roster turnover, it'll put the Huskies in a much better position if they're able to land multiple players from the upcoming high school graduating class.
