The Washington Huskies men's basketball team will enter this season looking to make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019.

The Huskies only had six players return from last season, several of whom dealt with a series of injuries that limited their impact on the team.

Washington filled out the other nine spots on the roster with a combination of players from different backgrounds, including Class of 2026 three-star small forward Lattimore Ford, five transfer portal additions and three international recruits.

And one returner and one newcomer team were recently filled putting in extra work together.

A recent video posted to "X" showed returning junior center Lathan Sommerville and Brazilian international recruit Wini Braga putting in extra workouts at a gym at the Huskies home training facility in Seattle.

Sommerville seemed to get a versatile workout in, which included catching alley-oops and shooting 3-pointers.

Both Sommerville and Braga could play crucial roles on the teams next season.

The Huskies starting frontcourt from last season, forward Hannes Steinbach and center Franck Kepnang, both departed the program this offseason. Steinbach was selected 14th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets and Kepnang transferred to the Kentucky Wildcats.

Sommerville will be looking to secure a starting role and Braga, who's essentially a complete unknown, will be looking to transfer his skill set from his native country of Brazil to the collegiate level.

The former of the two transferred to Washington last season after a year with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He sat behind Kepnang for the majority of the season and also missed a significant period of time with a knee injury.

The 6-foot-10, 275-pound center finished his sophomore year having averaged 4.3 points across 22 games (seven starts) on 43.8% shooting from the field. He also 2.6 rebounds per game.

In his two years of college ball in the Big Ten, Sommerville hasn't started more than 15 games in a single season and this year could be the opportunity he needs to establish himself as a starting-caliber center in a Power Four conference.

Braga likely won't be able to replicate the offensive production of Steinbach, who led UW in points and rebounds his only year on Montlake. However, Braga has a similar offensive skill set to Steinbach, with a particular proficiency in rebounding and the pick-and-roll.

In 45 games with Minas of the Brazilian basketball league, Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), Braga averaged 10.4 points on 55.1% shooting from the field (30% from 3-point range). He also averaged 6.2 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, 1.1 assists and one steal per game.
