The Washington Huskies men's basketball team has begun practicing in preparation of the 2026-27 season.

The Huskies are coming off a disappointing 16-17 campaign last season, the second under head coach Danny Sprinkle. Entering last year, the team had just two returners from Sprinkle's first year the helm of the program.

This season, Washington had more returners from Year 2 compared to Year 1 in the sprinkle era, but still needed to replace the majority of the roster.

The Huskies had six players from last year's squad, leaving UW nine spots to fill on the roster in preparation of this season.

Washington earned eight new commitments. One came from the high school Class of 2026, four came via the transfer portal and three were international recruits.

The Huskies still have room for one more player on the roster, which they're reportedly keeping open for a fourth international player.

According to a post on "X" from Husky Hoops (@UnivofWA), Washington is still targeting 6-foot-5 Slovenian guard Urban Kroflic.

Washington's interest in Kroflic has been reported back when the transfer portal first opened.

Kroflic is capable of playing either point or shooting guard, but his play lends itself to being a multi-level scorer in the vein of junior Wesley Yates III, who will be returning to Montlake after transferring from Southern California (USC) last season.

Last season, with KK Mega Basket, Kroflic averaged 10.1 points per game on 38.6% shooting from the floor, including a 37.9% clip from 3-point range. He also averaged  4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals.

Kroflic will compete for his native country in the stacked U20 FIBA Eurobasket tournament. Slovenia earned the bronze medal in the U19 FIBA World Cup last summer, which also featured several players who ended up competing for UW last season, including point guard JJ Mandaquit (U.S.), forward Hannes Steinbach (Germany) and forward Nikola Dzepina (Serbia).

Mandaquit transferred to Arizona, Steinbach entered the 2026 NBA Draft and was picked 14th overall by the Charlotte Hornets and Dzepina is set to return to the team this upcoming season.

If Kroflic commits to the Huskies following the Eurobasket tournament, he will have shared kinship with several international players on the team, several of whom he's competed against in international player.

In addition to Dzepina, who joined the team in December 2025, Washington's other international players feature this offseason's commitments: forward Wini Braga, guard Tristan Devers (Australia) and forward Boris Tisma (Croatia).
