Tevita Nonu had the Huskies among the five final teams he's considering

The Washington Huskies football team likely needs just a couple more high-end commits to cement the 2027 recruiting class as the best in program history.

The Huskies could earn commitments from several such players in the coming weeks, including a player right in their backyard.

Four-star defensive lineman Tevita Nonu is down to his final five teams, per a report from Rivals.com reporter Brandon Huffman: Washington, the Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Arizona Wildcats.

According to comments made by Nonu in the report, his decision could be coming in the next two weeks.

Nonu had the following comments in Huffman's story regarding his consideration of the Huskies:

"Washington is closest home," Nonu said in the story. "With an amazing defensive line room and team. (UW defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi) has been heavy on me and I’d be able to stay close to home as well."

Nonu, listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, currently attends O'Dea High School in Seattle. He has official visits scheduled with three schools in the next month, including two of his finalists.

Nonu will visit the UCLA Bruins on Friday, Arizona on May 29 and Washington on June 5.

The O'Dea attendee is ranked as the 245th-best player in the country, the 26th-best defensive lineman and the second-best player in Washington state according to the 247Sports Composite. The only player ranked ahead of Nonu in the state in the composite is wide receiver Braylon Pope, who has already committed to the Huskies.

Nonu was also a participant in the 2026 Polynesian Bowl.

There's still time for Nonu to move his deadline back or for other teams to enter the fold or strengthen their pitches, but early indications favor Washington to land the in-state defensive lineman.

Rivals.com's prediction model has the Huskies with the likeliest odds to land Nonu at 95.4%. Only one of his other finalists, Arizona, has more than a 1% chance to land the Seattle native per the model (1.7%).

If Washington were to land a commitment from Nonu, he would become the third defensive lineman to join the class, with the others being four-star Jon Ioane and three-star recruit Matamtagi Uiagalelei, and the 14th overall player to commit to UW.

The Huskies' '27 recruiting class currently ranks 13th in the country, per 247Sports.

The 12 teams ranked ahead of Washington are, in order: Oklahoma, Texas A&M, UCLA, Notre Dame, Southern California (USC), Florida, Penn State, Oregon, Kentucky, Ohio State, Miami and Minnesota.
