The Washington Huskies men's basketball team was one of the most injury-plagued rosters in the Big Ten last year. Junior guard Zoom Diallo (who has since transferred to Kentucky) was the only consistent starter who didn't miss games, the roster was down to seven-to-eight scholarship players for several games and the team ended up finishing the season 16-17.

The Huskies' injury troubles seem to have persisted into this offseason, albeit with a potential recruit rather than a player already on the roster.

Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle has been reported to be in Slovenia to scout 20-year-old combo guard Urban Kroflic, who's currently competing for Slovenia in the FIBA EuroBasket tournament, which is taking place in the guard's native country.

Entering Saturday's semifinal game between Slovenia and France, Kroflic was playing like the MVP of the tournament, averaging 16 points per game on over 60% shooting in addition to 6.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals across across five contests.

Kroflic was en route to putting up another quality showing against France. He scored eight points in the first quarter alone but was pulled from the game due to an apparent thigh/leg injury and didn't return.

The 6-foot-6 guard remained on the sidelines to cheer on his native country, which beat France 91-89 and advanced to the championship game of the tournament.

Kroflic remained on the sidelines without a crutch or a visible wrap or brace on his leg and was walking under his power, which could be an encouraging sign that his injury is not severe.

If Kroflic's injury is more severe than the naked eye would suggest, it could cause Sprinkle and the rest of the coaching staff to make a major pivot as to what to do with the final spot available on the roster.

The Huskies have had reported interest in Kroflic for months, as well as other Big Ten rivals, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and Iowa Hawkeyes. UW currently has 14 players committed and signed to the team for the 2026-27 season, and seemed to be keeping it warm for the Slovenian guard.

If Kroflic is unable to compete for an extended period of time, Sprinkle might have to go with one of the few guards remaining in the transfer portal to fill the final spot on the roster.

Notable transfers such as Tijan Saine Jr. (Weber State) and Myles Rice (Maryland) are such guards that remain in the portal.
