This season hasn't gone the way the Washington Huskies men's basketball team would have liked.
Entering Monday, the Huskies are 13-13 overall and 5-10 in Big Ten competition. The team's NCAA Tournament hopes, which has eluded the program since 2019, hinges on a deep or championship run in the Big Ten postseason tournament. The tournament will take place from March 10-15 at the United Center in Chicago.
However, Washington could end up making a great step toward success for the 2026-27 season.
Class of 2026 guard Dylan Mingo, one of the consensus best players in the country, is set to announce his college commitment at 8:40 a.m. PT on Tuesday on ESPN's First Take, according to a report from 247Sports recruiting analyst Dushawn London.
The Huskies are one of the four finalists to land Mingo, alongside Penn State, Baylor and North Carolina.
UW managed to find itself as a finalist, alongside the other three aforementioned teams, for Mingo amidst offers from blue blood-caliber programs.
Mingo has also received offers from UConn, St. John's, Miami and Texas, among others.
Mingo is ranked as the eighth-best overall player, third-best combo guard and best player in New York in the '26 class according to 247Sports.
The projections for where Mingo will add has varied over the last several months. There was originally an expectation he would join his brother, Kayden Mingo, with Penn State. He was then predicted to commit to Baylor according to 247Sports' Crystal Ball projections.
The Crystal Ball projections shifted from Baylor to North Carolina in recent weeks.
Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports' director of scouting, had the following scouting report on Mingo on July 29, 2025:
"Mingo is a big guard with length, versatility, natural feel for the game, and an ability to get wherever he wants with the ball in his hands. He has a tight handle, can break his defender down with combo-moves, navigate a crowded lane instinctively, make reads out of ball-screens, utilize both hands, and create for himself and others. ... While he has very good size and length at over 6-foot-4 with a better than 6-foot-10 wingspan, he’s a bit bow-legged and thus doesn’t always cover the court with a smooth gate. He can occasionally be nonchalant with the ball, which contributes to a relatively high turnover rate ... but the biggest swing skill is his shooting."
If Washington lands Mingo, he would be the program's first commit in the Class of '26.
The Huskies have found success on the recruiting trail since head coach Danny Sprinkle was hired ahead of the '24-25 season. The team landed Zoom Diallo, Hannes Steinbach and JJ Mandaquit, among others, in recent years.
Washington has also been active in the transfer portal under Sprinkle, landing players Bryson Tucker, Wesley Yates III and others.
