Fourth-year running back Jayden Limar will be playing for the first time since Week 1.

SEATTLE — The Washington Huskies football team has gotten a rare and unfortunate stroke of bad luck when it comes to the injury bug this season.

The Huskies have seen several position groups miss time this year with various injuries, most short-term. No position on the team has been plagued worse than the running back room.

Washington's tailbacks have begun suffering injuries since spring practice began in the offseason when third-year player and the projected starter, Jordan Washington, went down with a neck injury.

In Week 1, a 24-10 win against the Washington State Cougars on Sept. 6, second-year running back Quaid Carr (hand/wrist) and fourth-year running back (elbow) both suffered long-term injuries. Second-year running back Julian McMahan also went down for the  season with a foot/ankle injury.

First-year running back Ansu Sanoe will also miss his second game in a row in the team's game Saturday against the Nebraska Cornhuskers with a foot injury.

In UW's 38-26 win against the Purdue Boilermakers on Oct. 16, the team was down to three running backs on the travel team: first-year Brian Bonner Jr., sixth-year Trey Cooley and second-year Ryken Moon. Cooley exited the game with an AC joint sprain in his shoulder and is questionable for the game against Nebraska.

Luckily for the Huskies, one of the aforementioned injured running backs is set to make his return.

Limar returned to practice this week and is listed as probable on the team's injury report and is expected to receive a significant amount of snaps against the Cornhuskers.

"I expect Jayden to play," UW head coach Jedd Fisch said in a weekly news conference held via Zoom on Thursday. " ... I think that'll be really, really good. Hopefully (a) spark for us in terms of adding another running back into the equation. Last week we only had three running backs on our travel squad. So the fact that we could bring a couple more running backs this week, at least one more running back this week, that's a real positive. I do expect, assuming there's no setbacks (Thursday) in practice, that he will be good to go to at least participate in a decent amount of reps on Saturday."

In Limar and Carr's absence, Bonner has been the team's starting running back.

Limar, a Lake Stevens, Wash., native, transferred to Washington this offseason after three years as a reserve for the Oregon Ducks.

In his lone game before going down with an injury, Limar carried the ball 12 times for 47 yards and a touchdown.
