The Huskies men's basketball team will have Boise State transfer Drew Fielder on campus in the coming days

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team will be without its best player from last season.

Freshman forward Hannes Steinbach is expected to enter the 2026 NBA Draft after a history-making year with the Huskies.

In his history-making first year of college ball with Washington, Steinbach averaged 18.5 points per game on 57.7% shooting in 30 games. He also averaged 11.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.

Steinbach led the Big Ten with 22 double-doubles and was named second-team All-Big Ten by the Associated Press while also earning conference all-freshman honors.

As the team's No. 1 scoring option and one of the top first-year players in the country last season, Washington will have a tough time finding a suitable replacement for not only his skill set but his production.

But the Huskies could have a solid option to do just so in the transfer portal.

According to a report on "X" from Sam Kayser (@KayserHoops), Boise State center Drew Fielder is set to visit the Huskies in the coming days. The 6-foot-11, 225-pound big man wrapped up a visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, according to the report.

The soon-to-be senior was a four-star prospect and the 132nd-best player in the country in the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports.

Fielder began his career at Georgetown, where he played two seasons and played in 63 games (33 starts). He transferred to Boise State in his native Boise, Idaho, ahead of his junior year this past season.

Fielder had his most productive season of college ball by far with the Broncos. In 32 games (30 starts), he averaged 14.7 points per game on 54.7% shooting (including a 41% mark from 3-point range). He also averaged 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Fielder is a three-level scoring option that could also help improve the Huskies' 3-point shooting. Washington was 17th in the 18-team Big Ten in 3-point percentage (31.5%) last season and 15th in 3-point makes (6.7).

UW often had Steinabch man the four/power forward role last year opposite graduate center Franck Kepnang. The latter of the two served as the team's defensive anchor in the post.

Kepnang was granted another year of eligibility and is one of the seven players currently on the roster for the 2026-27 season. With Kepnang returning, Huskies head coach Danny Sprinkle would be able to utilize Fielder in a similar way as Steinbach in his offense.
