The talent of the Huskies wide receiver room was brought to the forefront for the first time this season.

The Washington Huskies football team put up its best offensive performance of the season on Friday in a 38-26 win over the Purdue Boilermakers.

The Huskies offense crossed several benchmarks as an offense that they've been unable to surpass this season. They scored more than 24 points against a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent for the first time this season and crossed 150 rushing yards on the year for the first time.

It's been a difficult season for the Washington offense, which has seen a captain at the center position, fourth-year Landen Hatchett, and five running backs miss games due to respective ailments.

The wide receivers have also had an up-and-down year, but, for perhaps the first time this year, the talent in the room shined through.

With third-year quarterback Elijah Brown leading the charge, who was filling in for injured starter and fellow third-year Demond Williams Jr., the wideouts had arguably their best collective game.

Second-year wide receiver Dezmen Roebuck, who had over 500 yards receiving and seven touchdowns as a true freshman last season, provided UW with needed flexibility on offense.

With just a three-man running back rotation of first-year Brian Bonner Jr., sixth-year Trey Cooley and second-year Ryken Moon, Roebuck got involved in the running game and received several carries in addition to his role as the starting slot receiver.

Roebuck finished the game with five receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown and ran five times for 16 yards. His 113 yards from scrimmage were his most against an FBS team in his career. It was the third time Roebuck has scored a touchdown in his last four games.

For the season, Roebuck brought in 48 catches for 484 yards and three touchdowns. His 48 receptions are eighth in the country.

Second-year wide receiver Chris Lawson also made an impact and reeled in six catches for a career-high 103 yards. It was the first 100-yard receiving game of his career.

Lawson has caught 32 passes for 483 yards and two scores this year.

At times this season, it's been difficult for the wide receivers to maximize their abilities with the general struggles to the offense from the offensive line to the quarterback position.

If Friday's game was a sign of things to come for the wide receiver group, then it can emerge as the most valuable position the team in the second half of the season.

Washington (4-3, 1-3 in Big Ten play) needs two more wins in its final five contests to be bowl-eligible.
