Senior Sayvia Sellers was one of 10 players featured on both coaches and media preseason All-Big Ten teams.
The Washington Huskies women's basketball team will be entering the season with legitimate Big Ten-title aspirations for the first time in a decade, and the talent they were able to retain this offseason is a big reason the team has those expectations.
All three players who received all-conference honors last year are back with the team. Senior guard Sayvia Sellers was named first-team All-Big Ten, junior guard Avery Howell was named All-BIg Ten honorable mention and sophomore forward Brynn McGaughy was named Big Ten All-Freshman.
At an individual level, there's a lot of outside expectations on Sellers, which was reflected in the preseason All-Big Ten list released Thursday.
Sellers was one of 10 players to be named preseason All-Big Ten. She was named to both coaches and media teams. This is the second-straight season Sellers has earned preseason All-Big Ten honors.
Both media and coaches had the same players receive preseason All-BIg Ten honors. The other nine players on the list were: junior Illinois forward Berry Wallace, junior Iowa center Ava Heiden, senior Maryland guard Oluchi Okananwa, junior Michigan guards Olivia Olson and Syla Swords, junior Nebraska guard Britt Prince, Ohio State junior guard Jaloni Cambridge, sophomore Southern California (USC) guard Jazzy Davidson, senior USC guard JuJu Watkins and Sellers. Watkins was named the preseason Player of the Year for both coaches and media.
Sellers' 2025-26 first-team All-Big Ten and subsequent 2026-27 preseason All-Big Ten honors came after a career-best season for the Anchorage, Ala., native.
The senior guard averaged 18 points on 47.3% shooting from the floor (35.4% from 3-point range) across 33 games (all starts). She also averaged 3.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest. The 5-foot-7 guard also averaged nearly a block per game (0.8).
Sellers has been a focal point of the team's rebuild under head coach Tina Langley and has been a key player in UW's back-to-back NCAA tournament berths the last two seasons.
Due to the NCAA's new "5-for-5" eligibility rules, Sellers will have the option to either return for a fifth year of college ball in the 2027-28 season or enter her name into the 2027 WNBA Draft.
Whatever the future has in store for Sellers, she and the Huskies will have a chance to prove all the preseason expectations right when the season begins against the UC San Diego Tritons at 6 p.m. PT on Nov. 2 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.
